signed bumpers?

HD91- you mentioned in your post that your bumper was signed. Did the technicians actually sign anywhere on our cars? Where on the bumper should one look for a signature?

I found it under the black trim panel of the rear bumper. Looks like someones initials, if I remember correctly something like "H.E". Dont know if this means something else or if it was the actual initials of the technician mounting the bumpers. I believe some people have found the same on their front bumper. This is however getting more rare today, with a lot of cars getting a well deserved respray after many years in use.

Remember, these cars were hand-built by a small team of mechanics in a small area. Assumingly the teams 'marked' and thereby reserved some of the parts for 'their' car. These 'signatures' that some people find on their cars at various spots do sometimes also have a date and very often these dates do
indeed correspond with the official 'production (read) date. :M5launch:

on my car it's on the front bumper, behind the rub strip on the passenger side, signed and dated, 22/2/90.

Hi guys , I've recently bought back my old 3.8 LE , GE00334 .

Would it be possible to see the build sheet ?

TIA .

D
Hi David,

Yes, of course! Would you be able to get me some photos of this beast? Might come handy for our homepage, if its in original condition still. I am working on a improved special versions section right now. In need of LE photos as well as Naghi.

er, presuming it was built for Steve Soper the BTCC & BMW works driver?

if so, quite a catch....

HI

I'm pretty sure that my car is alreay on the register (in fact I think you have some photos of my silver grey extended nappa leather interior on you site - which I can refresh for you later this weeks as I'm currently cleaning the leather).

however, I haven't managed to get the full build spec of my car from anywhere, even BMW SA have no details.

Can you help? chassis number BB77054

or have I already asked you

Yeah, you are right. The LE-version could have been the "M5 Soper" if you wish, as with the Winkelhock and Cecotto.
My brother had a nice brochure featuring all the drivers for BMW at this time including Mr. Soper, however it seems like he took it with him when he went to work 600 km from here. Will see if I can get hold of it later and put a scan of the Soper section here.

@davidoli = thanks a lot for pics! Are those original Limited Editon girls too :flag:
Would you be able to make interior photos as well? Would be excellent to see the petrol/mint combination.

Hi Jamie,

Yeah, you asked me before, and sorry but I still haven't found any information on South African build sheets. It's strange that BMW SA doesn't have them, but I guess they are to be found somewhere. Probably on store in Germany. I guess they are not available in any database but for sure there must be a paper version left. Have you tried BMW Classic? The staff there are usually English speaking too. Try finding them on the BMW web page. Otherwise send me an e-mail and I will look for contact details.

Finally, the -Steve Soper-connection- is revealed. I can hardly believe HOW this could have been kept a secret for such
a long time. Only a few here knew and they have kept quite, all this time, my respect.:)
-
[email protected] ALL (almost) the 50 LE cars have the - M5 RL (HC92) "Steve Soper" - reference.
I have been in contact with the personal assistant of Steve Soper on this subject.
Any BMW GB-plans in respect of a 'Steve Soper M5' were apparantly STOPPED by the M-GmbH or BMW in the
very last minute. The rest and the built-sheet-reference is now 'history'........:grrrrr::wroom:

Thanks Karl and HD91 ........It's incredible how certain facts emerge over time !

So my particular LE wasn't built exclusively for Steve Soper ........damn !

I'll try to get some interior pics for you tomorrow if I remember .
