Mine came to $1500 with them switching out one of my cam position sensors on the side (and charging me 1.5 hours of labor JUST for the CPS). I feel wronged.. but there's nothing I can do.

Hello Ashok,

that's the good thing about BMW switzerland 10 years or 100'000km free services !

TWS looks expensive, here it's approx £9.3/li which would bring the total at around £74.65

cheers

Ashok, sorry to hear about the cost. What a bummer ... Another example of rip-off Britain...?

Marc,

Where are you based in Switzerland? I'm based in Geneva and will pick up my M5 next week ... it's the same as yours in both colour and year cherrsagai

Tell me, in the advert, they mentioned that the car had this service deal but I didn't actually believe that the whole thing was free, only the service labour. Are you saying that the standard replacement parts are included as well (like filters, plugs, oil etc. ...) ? Thanks for clarifying since my car has 67,000Km's on the clock :)

Regards,

Gary.

Hello Gary,

I'm in Geneva too, give me a buzz
The oil & "pièces d'usure" are not part but the rest is.

You're lucky. Inspection II on my E28 M5 ended up costing me more than $6,000, which included fixing all the things they found wrong!

Typically how many miles does it take to require the InspectionII? I am at 33k and have 11 mos left on my extended maintenance plan.

At what point could I be needing brakes?

I am about to buy the extended BMW warranty and they are wanting to CPO my car. They said that if my brakes needed replacing that I may be responsible for the cost even though I am currently covered under maintenance and warranty. This correct? :(

Johnny - it all depends on how you drive. Look at the little green service indicator lights on your dash. When you're down to one little light (out of five) it's time to book your service. The system is primarily based on fuel consumed, the theory being that your mpg will be worse if you drive the car hard and therefore you need shorter service intervals.

I am a pretty gentle driver (albeit mostly city driving) and I'm at 50k miles. I think 50k miles between each Inspection II is about right.

Inspections and Oil Services alternate, so your services should go something like this:

-Oil service
-Inspection I
-Oil service
-Inspection II
-Oil service
- etc.

Main Dealers, Baah! Far too expensive.

I know that we aren't BMW 'approved' but could do the same job if not better for half the amount! Having worked at a main agent for 10years I think that I may be up to the job? Check us out www.pmwltd.co.uk
Hope this post does not infringe any regulations?? If so then I'm REALLY SORRY.

That does not surprise me, but then, I was trained using shock therapy by Sytner of Nottingham when they serviced my first car, an Alpina C2 that was just over two years old. (An Alpina C2 is a 3 series.) The bill was £2,000 in the 1980s, probably equivalent to £3,000 now.

I'll be taking my M5 to a good specialist, B&M Care in Leeds, and I expect the bill for an Inspection II to be £500. These days that should not infringe the extended warranty, either.

I see that the pre-delivery check (not a service) on my car, which I bought from a main dealer in the Midlands with 46,000 miles, generated an internal invoice for £1,410 – and that's without VAT.

PS for young sceptics: Sytner could charge £2k for a service (including a new exhaust) partly because this was the end of the eighties, and interesting cars were in a price bubble (a new Testarossa could change hands for £250,000, many times over list) and partly because Nigel Lawson, Thatcher's chancellor, was shadowing the Deutschmark at too high a rate. The pressure came off German parts prices with recession, 15% interest rates, and Britain's ejection from the ERM in 1992.

Off topic, I know. But for an oldie like me (I'm 44), £1,000 for an M5 Inspection II is simultaneously too expensive and ludicrously cheap.

Ashok,

Sounds very expensive, might be worth a call to Ian Cox at Cooper Banstead (Coxy on the UK site) to ask him what he thinks......

Fair enough, but always worth shopping around dealers in the South East here - the variations are enormous as you know........
