Doing about 40mph, the pothole was full of water thus undetectable. The sound of the hit was deafening, i thought I left the suspension in the pothole. The beast has the snow tires plus cheapo rims on and I did not feel any vibration afterwards but do you guys think a checkup is in order?

I would...you never know. I hit a dead cat once doing about 70 mph...sure, not as hard as a pothole but the sound and how the car bounced was crazy. I took the car to the dealer but everything was fine.

Drive at 40mph with hands touching but not controlling the wheel.

Any shake? If not and the wheel visually looks ok, you should be in good shape.

If you want to play it safe, bring it to a tire shop and have them spin that wheel to determine if it's not weighed right (but you should have shake if that were the case) or if the wheel is out of round.

At the end of the winter of 2008-09 when I swapped out my winter wheels (M5 OEM with Dunlop M3 Winter Sports), every single wheel was bent. And I never felt a shimmy.

It's best to have them checked now - both wheels on the side you slammed. Good luck.
