Help ..!! Brake Vibration on hard breaking only ..

Hi guys,

I am experiencing brake judder if I do some hard braking (say for 40-0) almost like I am trying to test my brake system...

The judder is not really bad , however I am confused because I don't feel any judder or vibration at all in normal (mild) braking.... the brake still feel smooth.

It just one of those time, when you have to brake harder (ie: light turns red all of sudden while you're cruising at city speed limit).

In the past with my other car I would experience the judder/vibration with even with mild braking and get worse with harder braking.

But with my beast none at mild breaking and there is some judder/vibration on moderate - hard braking.
What could possibly cause this ?

PS: My beast is 02, with 11,700 miles (suspensions, wheels and brakes components are all stock)

TIA.

Rotor thickness variation as the result of uneven brake pad transfer layer.

Try bedding the brakes to see if the problem is reduced or eliminated. See: http://zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm for step-by-step instructions. If bedding doesn't cure the problem, you either need to have your rotors turned or replaced.

I'll give that a try Dave. Thanks.
If that doesn't cure it then I'll replace it.

On another note slightly off topic, does the rotor cover under warranty ? (I still have the 4/50 remains)

Many people confuse the vehicle warranty with the free maintenance agreement, especially on later BMWs where the two run for the same length of time. (USA only.) Consumable items, such as clutch, brake pads/rotors, windshield wiper blades, oil, and filters are not covered by warranty, but they are covered by your free maintenance agreement as long as you are within the time and mileage limits of that agreement.

My car is a 2001 model, so the free maintenance only ran for three years and 36,000 miles. It was in either 2002 or 2003 that they increased it to four years, the same as the new vehicle warranty limits.

Finally i got rid of the problem, which seems to be uneven deposition on rotor surface in this case.
I ordered Axxis Deluxe Plus pad, and bed them in proper manner. And the brake is smooth as glass now....
