Well.... I have been a 'viewer' on this board for a long time, but have decided to join the fun. So hello to you all.

Have been an M5'er for 4 years now and the old girl has been off 2 TVR's in its time and now sits along side my Alpina Roadster 'S'. I have enjoyed the threads and especially the 'DIY' hints and tips which have been a great help. My wagon is standard abiet with K&N filters.

Like many on the board.... I just cannot see myself ever selling it!!

Look forward to joining in and offering some decent contributions.

Cheers
Marto

Welcome to the forum!

That appears to be a very well taken care of M5! Judging by the reflection from the ceiling lights on your second picture, I am happy to see another OCD detailer join us :D

Fit like? Who knew there were so many e39's rolling about the North east?? Well thats 5 that I know of now anyway... and 1 of those is Granton so not really the north east. Where are you from? I'm originally Cullen but was in Aberdeen for 3 years (with a brief spell in Edinburgh) but moved back up to Findochty last month. Still trying to adjust back to village life and having 1 pub to choose from of an evening! Car looks spotless by the way, good effort.

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome!

e39Aberdeen...: I am based in Aberdeen city (on the south side), there are a few M5's rolling about up here, but their numbers are diminishing. Hope villiage life isn't too bad and having 1 pub is not a bad thing. Become a local and think of the lock ins!!!!

Anyway..... Wheels are shot (photos disguise that well) so they are off to be refinished + a retint of the windows, and there are a couple of spots that need some rust treatment and a respray, so that is all lined up for Feb, before the spring and sunny days come to the NE of Scotland, although sunny days in the NE of Scotland are few and far between!!!

Welcome to the active board! Beautiful ///M! and while I was ogling how most excellent she looks and how gosh-darned *clean* she was, my wife stepped behind me and said "That's how your ///M looked when I met you..."

You're going to make me want to actually clean and polish her this weekend....

I have seen a black 1 in the City before so I presume it must have been you. There is another guy on here with a Silverstone and I know there was another avus blue 1 other than mine. (it was going around with L plates on last summer!!) There is also another blue 330d thats dressed and badged as an m5 this sits up in altens between john clark and specialist cars, I presume he/she works in the area as its there almost every time I'm there. And as I said theres an avus blue in Granton (I think its actually on ebay at the moment). Other than that I havent heard of or seen any M5 this far north! I bought mine from a boy in Peterhead whod brought it up form down south. John Clark obviously didnt sell to many of them back in the day!

Where are you planning on getting your wheels done? I had my done at Turriff Tyres, they dont do them on premises but I had wheels done through them before and they came out pretty well. The finish on the M5 wheels is fantastic but I'm not to convinced that the colour is as close to OEM as it could be. Charged an extra £30 per rim for the 'BMW finish' but when the wheels are clean I still think they are a bit light in colour.

e39a: The wheels are going to Prestige refinishers (They have an OEM agreement with Aston Martin and others for wheel repairs and refinishing) 'dahn sahff' via a small firm called motorwerks in Aberdeen. Laws tyres in Aberdeen use the same firm but were going to charge me £50 per wheel more (£95 p/w with Motoewerks v. £149 with Laws Tyres), so no brainer! Like you I have asked for the BMW shadow finish, which was the OEM finish on the wheels, and Prestige say they can do it. Also Motorwerks are going to re-do the window tints and their bodyshop tie-in are to tidy up some scrathes and corroision.

As for how do I keep it that clean with our climate? Well rest assured that it's not that clean at the moment!!! Its pretty dirty following the recent weather and the endless gritting. However from my days with TVR's, a friend who has a TVR Segaris, his son is at Uni and during his holidays, he makes some exta cash by doing detailing. He is very good at it (as you can see) and is very much a stickler for detail. The pictures were following a 10hr detail and it does not really do it justice as my jaw hit the deck when it was finished. Outstanding!

I have learned some hints and tips from him, so I manage to keep on top of it... and I DO NOT go through car washes! Ha ha.

Anyways it's up on axle stands as the wheels were whipped off this morning (again.. many thanks to this forum for providing great information on how to get the big brute on axle stands) which will be collected tomorrow.

I will post some photos of the wheel when they come back, so you can see the work and the finish (whether good or bad. Let hope its good).

Enjoy your Burn Night haggis and Whisky, whereever you may be.

Cheers
