What are those nozzle looking thingies on top of front bumper

Ok, ok, my newbie-ness is really showing this week so here goes.

A co-worker of mine wanted to see the 2002 M5 I recently got, so we went to the parking lot and showed it to him. Mind you, he's a down to earth family guy since a young age and is not really into cars and is clueless to the BMW M5.

He says nice car and I can tell you're a bachelor.

I try to hit the highlights of the car and some of the mods.

Well, I pop the hood to show him the soul of the beast.

He says, "thats one big engine !!".

I reply, "Yes, 8 cylinder, 32 valve, 400 horsepower".

He says, "mine has 150 HP".

I said, "My previous car was under 200HP, so this is a step up".

He then points out these black nozzle looking tips on the top of the front bumper. There are two(2) sets of two on the front bumper.

I said those are the parking sensors which trigger an audible tone when close to an object while parking.

Then family guy, says .... "arent those indented circles on the edge of the bumpers the parking sensors".

Hmmmm, he one up'd me and he is correct.

Show and tell is over.

Ive since come home and scoured the Users Manual, both print and pdf version. Cant find what Im looking for.

Anyone know what those nozzle looking tips are on the top of the front bumper are ??

Thanks !!

Peace,
GR :7:

Thanks !!

I looked at manual(s) again and did not find mention of the nozzles

However I found mention of headlamp and windshield washer system in the fluids section.

I assume when you turn on windshield washer the headlamps get washed also.

Guess I need 2 people to confirm this on my car or I could just turn on windshield washer and look for fluid residue on the headlamps.

Also in the manual(s) there is mention of the "intensive action washer reservoir".

How does that differ from windshield washer system ??

Man, I need a class on this car !! :eek:oohhh:

Peace,
GR

yeah, they're headlamp washers, i believe the headlamps get washed every fifth time the windshield gets washed, if the headlamps are on... you see I read the owners manual!

My "bad" !!!

Its in the pdf manual, but I guess I missed it. Did a search for washer and found it.

"page 61
Index Data Repairs Maintenance Controls Overview

Washer/Wiper system Cruise control

Cleaning headlamps

When the headlamps are on, they are also cleaned automatically every fifth
time you activate "Cleaning windshield" 5 or "Intensive cleaning"."
