Has anyone else experienced this issue?

The rear tyres on my E34 M5 need replaced, its the 'Throwing stars' alloys that are on the car so the correct size and speed rating is 255/40 ZR17. The car has Continental's on it all round at the minute but the rears are 'N' rated which are Porsche rated and these seem to be the only tyres you can get now in this size but I don't really want the N rated tyres.

Continental do a 255/40 YR17 but they are not the Extra Load tyre.

What are people's thoughts on this?

255/40 XL tires are quite rare. I just had same problem. Usually front 235/45 are XL 97, but rears load index 94. I did´n want "softer" rear tires. There was few brands available. I bought set of Nexen´s, fronts are XL97W and rears XL98W. I also have now Continentals, maybe today i have Nexens installed so i can tell how they compare.

So it looks like if you want Contis, you can buy fronts contisportcontact5 94Y and rears contisportsontact3 94Y.

Where you buy your tires?
