Greetings! I think we all know the thoroughbred M5 is no Honda commuter car, but there's a lot of conjecture about M5 reliability and I think an updated poll will help set things straight.

Searching the forum seems to indicate that most of the polls regarding reliability took place around 2006/2007, and most of those were SMG related. Hopefully, this anonymous poll will give everyone some newer results.

If we get enough responses, I'll try to correlate the results based on the number of M5 owners on this board for each year. I'll also try to correct for the "newness" factor, though that may require assistance from my mathematician/wife (a given car usually has fewer problems when newer versus later when the same car is older and worn).

Hopefully, this isn't a duplicate from somewhere. Thanks for your time :byebye:

edit: I didn't include 2010 M5 models since they are so new... perhaps I should have had the option regardless.

Thanks again for the votes. Looks like the E60 is actually pretty solid... I'm guessing there were some initial issues (vanos and SMG included) that seem to have been sorted out.

Good Poll. The fact is more people post when something goes wrong and they are looking for answers. Not many people just start threads saying "Everythings good". Hopefully more people will respond and the reliability trend will look good. I have a 2006 M5 with 49,000 and never a breakdown. (Fingers now crossed)

I voted to since we have the same engine/problems. 2 years, only major problem I had was the clutch position sensor going out and I was still able to drive the car. Could not be more happy, I have driven this car hard.

Looks like some more votes rolled in... Just curious, has anyone had a breakdown that was NOT caused by the SMG 7-speed?
