Hey Guys my name is Abe and I'm putting together a group buy for Direct Buy Warranty. From all of the research I've done there are a few things that stand out about this company.

1. Kirk Moore is going to be selling us the warranties and he will also ALWAYS be our rep. When the cars break down we talk to him every time. as opposed to calling a customer service line where you talk to some different every time.

2. NO middle man. we are buying direct hence the company name Direct buy warranty.

3. ZERO deductable

we currently have 6 guys ready to purchase and we will be doing so in the next week. The prices are by far the best I've seen for our cars and the coverage is on par.

My quote was $2000 for 5 years and 75k additional miles, 0 deductable, and rental car.

I have a 2006 M5 with 35k miles

I have attached the sample contract that shows all of the exclusions.

If your interested Contact Kirk Moore @ 1-888-865-4484 Ext8823 or [email protected] he can answer any questions you may have..
.DON'T FORGET TO MENTION YOUR DOING THE GROUP BUY WITH ABE DAHER
also let me know if your going to buy as well so I can keep track of how many we're putting together.

Thanks for throwing this out to the group. I read the contract and it makes it clear that it does not cover "manual transmission" clutch, throwout bearing, preasure plate etc.... One other warranty I was looking into had similar language so it did cover the SMG because it is computer controlled vs a traditional manual trans.. Can you ask your rep if this warranty covers our SMG clutch, pressure plate etc....? Also does it cover Vanos? If it does cover the SMG and Vanos and they have a solid track record Im interested for sure.

Thanks

I'll double check with him tomorrow but I think I asked him the same thing already and my impression is that the only thing not covered is what is specifically stated in the exclusions....nobody is going to cover a clutch no matter who controls it because it's a wear and tear part but I didn't ask about part failure,I have a buddy that sheared one of the bolts off his flywheel and made a real mess of the clutch and flywheel and his extended warranty company covered it. the vanos and the smg's are covered just not the specific parts mentioned.
As far as track record

I just googled who's the best extended warranty company and this is the first thing that came up.

Yeah that would be great to get that clarified. Ive only had my M5 for a few months and from what Ive read one of the biggest issues with our SMG trans is the guide bearing going out which will cause excessive wear on the clutch. Would be nice to know that part is covered.

Thanks.

Becareful with this warranty seams kind of worthless to a point that these are the parts most likely to go bad. Easycare/Maxcare covers all of these. How are you not going to cover these parts.

emission systems; head lamp and projection lamp assemblies, telephones, television / vcr, electronic and satellite transmitting / receiving devices, sealed beams, moldings, bright metal, chrome, , zippers, cup holders, dash pad and vents, seat frame, outside ornamentation, inside and outside door handles, mirrors, hinges, lift gate and hood supports, , bumpers, body sheet metal and panels, body parts, frame, structural body parts, speakers, wiring

I didnt read anywhere that they didnt cover the smg pump or vanos so if they do then i guess its ok but if they dont, stay clear from this. the price is good but thats about it. i got the 6 year and 75k for the same price, along with a few others on this board and have made claims with no problems.

I don't want to say anything negative, as it always seems like sour grapes when coming from someone like me that sells warranties.

In my experience (not direct, just in speaking to SA's, web research, and calling the company to ask some questions) they are not bad, and are well priced, but are not a top-tier company. SMG is not covered according to the person I spoke with at the company, and their willingness to pay franchised dealer repair rates is a bit less than Tier-1 companies like NAC, Fidelity, EasyCare, Zurich, etc. according to a few of the SA's I spoke with.

In my opinion, worth considering due to the price, but not quite at same level as the Tier-1's, and not covering SMG is obviously an issue for SMG owners.

1. the reason we're getting a lower rate is because there's NO BROKER. No middle man...and we're doing a group buy

2. The original rate was $3000.00 for my car based on my year and miles

3. They are backed by 3 large insurance companies. Big bell services, Biletti risk managment, Continental risk managment.

4. In business for 22 years, They are a "Top Teir" Teir-1 company

5. THE SMG IS COVERED(in Kirk's words "from front to back", because it's computer controlled. the VANOS is also covered.:)

I'm not really worried about anything listed. this stuff is mostly $100's to replace as oppossed to Thousands for drivetrain items... "Worthless???" really...cmon man..that's quite an overstatment

emission systems; head lamp and projection lamp assemblies, telephones, television / vcr, electronic and satellite transmitting / receiving devices, sealed beams, moldings, bright metal, chrome, , zippers, cup holders, dash pad and vents, seat frame, outside ornamentation, inside and outside door handles, mirrors, hinges, lift gate and hood supports, , bumpers, body sheet metal and panels, body parts, frame, structural body parts, speakers, wiring
Some of these items are covered by your regular insurance ( bumpers, body sheet metal and panels, body parts, frame, structural body parts)
not sure how any of these items could or ever would fail other than getting in an accident.

That's why it's called exclusionary it only lists what's not covered. I do think that when we do contracts we need to make sure that they put verbage in that commit's them to covering the SMG because it does say that many of the clutch and surrounding parts are not covered however it also says MANUAL TRANSMISSION which the SMG is NOT.

The reason I put all of kirks information on the post is so that if anyone has questions they can talk to someone who has all the answers to your questions if you actually have one...

I didn't really want this to turn into me having to put out SPECULATIVE fires

This is a good policy with great coverage for an awesome price. If anyone has ACTUALLY had experience good or bad with this company "Direct Buy Warranty" please share.

Thanks for the info. Ill give Kirk a call and get more details on what is covered regarding the SMG/Clutch etc..... I know the NAC warranty covers all that so Im really leaning that way but want to check this out also. I appreciate the time your putting into this for the rest of us. Thanks.

Im interested too. There is an exclusion with "known or unknown pre existing condition"
Could any problem not be deemed "an unknown pre existing" and denied?
Eg smg fails, but company says there was an unknown problem?iF it's unknown, how do I defend that?

Anybody has experience with direct buy would love to share?

If they cover the SMG and I have this in writing then this is not a bad deal.

But I do agree that others do cover most of what this warranty does not as I have EasyCare at this time.

Look, I am not trying to pick a fight or rain on a parade here. It's nice that you are trying to put stuff together for board members.

I caution people about the things I mentioned with what I provide, or what they might find elsewhere.

Contracts are murky waters, as whenever the language is not very tight and clearly defined, there is room for interpretation and with a contract that's a bad thing.

You seem very confident about Direct Buy, but it sounds like you do not (and so far no one else on this board does either) have any experience with them. You are answering questions as if you rep the company, and have a history of claims experience and insider understanding of the company. But isn't your knowledge of them limited to your conversation with Kirk and some Google research? You may be right, but that's thin at best if my statement is accurate.

I'll give you an example of vague language that could come back to haunt you:

Known and unkown pre-existing conditions - That's a hideous loophole. How do you defend against the denial of a claim due to an unknown pre-existing condition?? That clause basically says that they can claim a pre-existing condition to justify a denial and then not have to prove it, saying it was 'unknown'. I would not buy it based on that clause alone, to be honest.

The two links you provide link to Carchex and Warranty Direct. Did I miss those links being about Direct Buy? Carchex is not very good about exclusionary coverage for highline car repairs at franchised dealers. They are OK with domestics, asian cars, and indy repairs. Warranty Direct I represented for almost three years until they became VERY difficult with claims, always wanted to sub with used or salvage yard parts, and would allow only for Mitchell's or Alldata repair rates and force my clients to pay the difference at the dealer. Many times I paid the delta myself to keep a client happy, but that is a recipe for disaster so I dropped them. Warranty Direct is actually INDS, a company that moved from NY to GA and chopped a lot of people to save costs. AAA dropped them too as the provider of their extended warranty plans.

I think our opinion of what constititutes a Tier-I company, and a good insurance company, differ, and that's life I guess. Maybe you're right and I am wrong.

Finally, if this is the same Direct Buy warranty in NY and NJ referred to below, I would strongly advise people to stay away. If I am wrong about this, please let me know right away and I will edit my post to remove all the info below:

Direct Buy Warrnty complaint - coverage

UPDATE: It sounds like the same company because several posters mention the 'known or unknown pre-existing condition' issue being used to justify a denial. In fact, one of them mentions Kirk Moore by name. In addition to other accusations (and the fact that these people post on the internet does not mean what they say is true), it is alleged that Direct Buy's address is not a legitimate business, that they charge the credit card from an offshore account, that they do not have their office staffed regularly during business hours, that they will answer their sales line but not their claims line at certain times, etc.

I also find it extremely odd that a rep from their company responds to complaints with a form letter threatening legal action against the complainant. Finally, they are not BBB registered.

Abe, I really think a lot more time and research needs to go into this. It sounds sketchy from the web posts, and granted, that's about all I know besides some casual conversations with SA's.

Bruce, Thanks for your knowledge on the general topic of extended warranty. Im going to be getting back in contact with you regarding the NAC warranty we were discussing a few weeks back. Thanks and I look forward to your help with NAC. One general question that many may have but have not asked is when you get your inspection done for the warranty who do you have to take it to? Does it have to be a BMW dealer or just a BMW Cert. Mechanic? Thanks

These are one of those warranty's that when you need to use it you cant because of all the restrictions. I can tell you that this is still smarter than not having anything at all. Bruce is very knowledgeable with warranty's and i would give him a shot before ever going with this warranty.

Bruce...

You are a broker...from what I've been able to gather with my "limited knowledge"

No matter what insurance company you go with your going to have complaints...I googled complaints against NAC and there are not only like and kind stories for NAC but they also have 14 BBB complaints within the past 12 months

Consumer Complaints for National Auto Care Corporation - Central Ohio BBB

Direct buy warranty has had 9

Consumer Complaints for Direct Buy Auto Warranty - BBB serving Metropolitan New York, Long Island, and the Mid-Hudson Region

I understand that your trying to protect your gravy train. you ARE raining on this parade, you Are being negative, and only you would know if there are any sour grapes involved. (passive aggressive)

You quoted me $5,045. for 5 years 75k

Direct buy quoted $2,000 for 5 years 75k

that's 150% more!

Look...I'm not going to continue to go back and forth with you, throwing mud on the wall to see how much sticks, you keep using the term ALLEGEDLY...that doesn't hold any weight, I know why you continue to throw out hearsay... to muddy the waters and create doubt:confused:
when you mix true concerns and facts with all of that. it makes it all seem like it's true!

Members:
If your reading this post make your own decision. I'm sure bruce sells a great product.... is it 3k better? I don't know.

For me...I am just trying to protect all of the Major drivetrain parts and this warranty does everything the NAC warranty does from what I can tell. the KNOWN/UNKNOWN clause is ONLY FOR PRE-Contract...ONCE THEY DETERMINE THE CAR IS SOUND WHEN THEY DO THE INSPECTION AN ADDENDUM IS ATTACHED THAT QUALIFIES THE CAR FOR PLATINUM COVERAGE nullifying the known/unknown clause..

I KNEW this post was going to turn into thisouich

NAC sells well over 10,000 warranties PER MONTH, and is BBB registered. They have 14 complaints with the BBB.

Direct Buy is not BBB registered, and I have no idea how many warranties they sell per month. Maybe find out? It's all about the complaint ratio, not the total number of complaints.

Similar complaints? You're kidding, right? People complain about NAC being an off-shore company? About being housed in non-corporate buildings, one of which houses a porn production studio? About them being closed for construction and Jewish holidays for days on end when it comes to claims, but answering the phone in the sales department? I could go on, but you get the point.

I have sold on this forum about 15 warranties in two years, at an average post-credit card transaction margin of 10%. Any time you want to hop on that gravy train, you let me know.

From the extremely limited amount of research I have done on this company, and the clauses in the contract you provided, I am very worried about people spending their money with Direct Buy. Don't buy from me, everyone reading this, buy wherever and whatever you like. I just do not like seeing people get scammed, and thats what this appears to be. Did you read the actual complaints in the URLs I provided? Did you read the names of the fly-by-night insurance companies you listed for Direct Buy?

Why not stop to think about pricing? Sure, you may think $5K is too much, and maybe it is. But $2K for exclusionary coverage on an M5 is $400 per year to, in your car's case, insure an M5 to over 100K miles. How exactly do they reserve enough money to pay claims, unless they are huge and can spread risk out amongst all their lines? The answer is they can't. So that leaves two options; go out of business, or fight/deny claims.

And aren't you concerned that they dropped their price by over 30% for a 6 person GP? What does that say about their pricing in the first place?

I am not going to post in this thread again. You guys are all adults and can make up your own minds. I've just been down this road many times before, and I like saving people from scams. Go buy EasyCare, Fidelity, Zurich, or NAC (from someone other than me if you think this is an ulterior motive post). But everything I have seen on Direct Buy in NY/NJ says it's a scam to me.

Look, no warranty company is perfect, NAC, or even BMW, included. But take a good long look at the complaints, info, and even the responses from the company to the complaints. It gives me pause.

Caveat emptor.

The actual clutch disc won't be covered in any warrantly unless it is a result of a failed component that is covered.
Regarding the SMG - if it breaks you should be happy to pay for a new clutch disc if everything else is covered. I
went with EasyCare and got an e-mail from them stating "SMG transmission is covered in its entirety".

WELL..............After reading one of bruce's links ALL 9 PAGES OF COMPLAINTS I"m going to have to agree that they are sketchy............

WHEN I'm WRONG I'm WRONG....SORRY BRUCE...guess I'll save up for the 5k...LOL

if you read the complaints the evidence really is overwhelming. When someone says NO to me I always PUSH BACK...in this case I was in the wrong and Bruce was just doing what he should be doing. Obviously there is something crooked going on here and I'm not willing to spend 2k to find out.

Goes back to the saying my ol man has always said.."if it seems to good to be true it probably is"

he also said "a Smart Idiot is 10x more dangerous than a stupid one"
