Up for sale is my 2003 M5 that I purchased in March 2017 from Seattle. Since then, I've invested a considerable amount of time and funds into restoring the car. Everything I've done is documented in my thread, but I'll summarize the work here as well. Reason for the sale is to focus more on my house as every old BMW requires constant maintenance and I'm (reluctantly) shifting priorities. It's been the most satisfying car I've ever owned. Currently at 116k miles.

The car was originally ordered to have the following Dinan parts installed at the Florida dealer in 2003:
  • Cold Air Intake
  • Mass Flow Meters
  • Strut Tower Brace
  • Exhaust
  • 3.73 LSD
  • Stage 3 Software Tune
The Dinan exhaust was replaced with the stock version at some point followed by the muffler-delete mod. The car had the Dinan badge on the trunk but since the previous owner drilled it to install the E36 wing, I had to get a clean trunk from a 525i, painted it to match, then installed the proper E39 spoiler.

Here is the Carfax for the car. Unfortunately I don't have any more details or info regarding the accident beyond what's written in the report. The car did not have any structural damage, the title is clean, and the car hasn't exhibited any signs of damage. BMW Seattle performed a PPI when I bought the car and nothing out of the ordinary was observed. Between the Carfax and all my photos/documentation, the entire history of the car is essentially available.

I don't have any documentation but wanted to add that according to the previous owner, the clutch, water pump, and thermostat were replaced at 80k miles.

is it just the muffler delete and not the resonator? trying to gauge how load it is, outside and in the cabin

The resonator is still installed so there's no drone at all.

If you search this forum, you'll see the muffler delete mod is very popular because it's civilized when driving normally, but loud when you really get on it. Best of both worlds. No one's ever complained that it's too loud inside the cabin.

I have seen thousands of FS ads for e39s and e39 M5s and yours is ....making me drool. Your whole thread of how you bought the car, the road trip and beautiful photography, so perfect. The list of parts and services is absolutely insane! I don't know how you could sell a car you have invested so much time, money, and attention in...but I get it, life priorities. It is as perfect as an e39 M5 could be! I think $25k is a steal for a car with this level of TLC. I wish this was for sale earlier this year! I would have snatched it up before I got my e39. Good luck with this!!

Appreciate it! It's definitely been fun and a labor of love. At this point I've already taken care of the majority of items that needed attention and feel like I'm letting it go now that it's "ready," but I've also enjoyed it long enough to feel good enough about the ownership experience.

Unsurprisingly, I really enjoy the documenting process and been doing the same with my Cayman.

I'm hoping in the future I can restore either an E24 M6 or 2002. Or a GTV 2000. Or an original Mini.

Car ADD is a real disease. :)

Couldn’t agree more, easy to be enthusiastic about these kinds of cars. I have always wanted the e24! It is The second car I’m after to keep for good. First the e39. And now I’m looking to get a 635csi. Paint or wrap it black and get some white or caramel seats...

Thanks again for sharing!
