I'm on to my 3rd set - two were knackered when I bought the car and lasted about 3 months before falling apart. The 2nd set were 'retired' when I took out a few 3ft cones and a sign at a Prestwold Hall trackday. The 3rd set are staying in as long as they can and I use them maybe twice a year and it's just not worth it!

How many fog lamps have you cracked whilst you have owned your M5
I have done 4 now. they tend to be quite vulnerable & bullseye quite easily.
No big deal in the general scheme of things compared to other bits on this type of car as a trip to German Swedsh & French for a foglamp insert was £20 last time.
Just strip the damaged lens & case from the reflector & lamp asy & stick the new lens insert on. Job done..
Not anymore it would seem.
GSF are no longer just stocking the insert & all that is available is a complete foglamp asy @ nearly £50.
Euro car parts have a few lens inserts left this was where I sourced mine for £32. Otherwise you are looking at £56 for a complete unit.
This would appear to be due to the age of the vehicle & a general decline for part on E34 & with such an increase in parts for E39's the parts for older bimmers are being rationalised.
There is the stealership route but that is always going to cost more.
Just a hint that if this happening with foglamps, then what else may succumb to short supply or obsolesence.
It might be a good time to grab a couple of foglamp inserts from Euro car parts to keep as spares if you are planning to keep your car for any length of time.

have a tiny hole in one of mine too - but never use the things and can only think that I would replace it for cosmetic reasons

haven't had any of mine go - not even a chip in any of them in my 535i sport either and I've owned that 3 years and done 60,000 miles in it. Mind you had 3 cracked headlights and 2 cracked windscreens, so fog lamps would be preferable!!erikm54life said:I thought i was the only one that had this problem!
