and the car's history seems off to me (from carfax)

01/14/2009 Virginia
Motor Vehicle Dept. Vehicle purchase reported

01/17/2013 US Customs Vehicle exported from
Germany
and imported to
Baltimore, MD

02/18/2013 16,756 Virginia
Inspection Station
Alexandria, VA Passed emissions inspection

the car is purchased in 2009... only imported in 2013 and a month later has 16k miles?

I know this has nothing to do with the e60, but I'm most comfortable posting here... can anyone think of a scenario where the above info makes sense?

Could be a purchase through Pentagon Car Sales as well. That's the military sales program. You have to be stationed overseas to purchase through them. We purchased my wife's X3 through there, but I have no idea what carfax would show.

Correct. My buddy got his E92 that way. Also, Carfax is not the greatest for keeping track of things like most people believe. But, I digress, I will not get started on that...........
