With much sadness, but a heap of pragmatism, I have concluded that I need to sell my M5.

I bought the car in 2008 to make a specific set of regular weekend motorway / A road journeys "fun".

I didn't buy the car as an investment / future classic, I don't have the space or inclination for such things, and now own a newish, modern 300 bhp Audi A6 for long journeys, so, the M5 is simply sitting in the garage no longer getting any use, love or attention.

I was supposed to keep the car for four years, yet, here I am 10 years (and many many thousands of pounds ) later and I still have it! I will miss how it drives, but.... keeping the car would simply be "hoarding", and I have four other vehicles.

So, the M5 has served it's purpose (extremely well!), and because I owned it to use it, has been maintained as daily driver car, so there are no niggles, wobbles / shimmey's etc etc.

It drives and handles fabulously, oil temp stays at is 78 deg C, and on motorways it achieves 24+ mpg when cruising.

The engine uses less than 100ml of oil per 1000 KM's, and never uses water.

it is however rusty, and despite some bodywork repairs circa 2010, it now needs body work repairs.
the rear diff seal will need re-doing soon (oil level hasn't dropped but it has a small amount of seepage)

If I was to keep it, I would have a glass out restore / re-spray done.

Huge file of receipts from my ownership - lots of parts replaced over the last ten years.
All UK MOT's and letter from original owner (validation of history)
Always serviced on time (or before due) by a M tech specialist. Normal oil change interval has been max. 3000 miles.
gearbox rebuilt in 2015, new clutch fitted and lighter flywheel (old flywheel available)
genuine Alpina wheels (17 inch staggered)
has the original KPH speedometer fitted (I have a UK one in a box but prefer the look of the original).
sill covers where painted white by previous owner
cd multi changer has recently stopped working.

I have interest from the owner of my local garage who wants to buy the car (they do the occasional classic restore), but, I feel I should offer the car here as well to gauge interest and help determine a fair price.

If you are interested in my car then let me know sooner rather than later as now the decision is made, I don't intend to drag out the sale.

located in Kent 3 miles from M20 junction 2.

these photos from 2016, not taken any since.

price - make me an offer - I wont be offended by silly offers, but, dont expect to me to bother replying to anything stupid.

thanks Matt

I will most likely become one of the people who write "I miss my M5 and wish I'd never sold it"

but, the reality is that I can't build another garage (I live in heavily protected greenbelt area where planning permission is not obtainable) and my garaging is full. Storing the car elsewhere is a nonsense as it will cost every day for a car I dont actually need or use any more.

If I was still a well paid IT contractor I might be persuaded to keep it, but, alas, those days are gone, so, pragmatism has to win out.

Hi Eero

No, didn't sell the M5.

I had some engine issues with my Audi A6 (which needed replacement timing chains, new inlet camshaft and various other sensors and tensioners), which have taken lawyers, court cases and many months of wrangling to sort out, so, I kept the M5 in use just in case it all went wrong.

Its now scheduled to go for some attention to the body work at the end of March to make it more attractive to sell via EBay, PistonHeads, AutoTrader etc.

Are you still looking for a new project?
