MY 94 L M5 edc button was not illuminating and no dash edc light either so i did the following

took the S & P switch out and cleaned it...............no difference

took the rear seat out and checked the fuse(EDC 111) oppersite end of the seat from the battery and it seems ok..

as the check control system isnt showing any fault I removed the above fuse and turned on the ignition and it still isnt saying there is a fault.

Is there anything else I can check myself, this is driving me mad.

Matt:confused:

Can you tell the difference between the settings S and P when driving? You should be able to, S is pretty hard on the old fillings on poorly surfaced roads.

If that's the case, perhaps it's just the bulb in the switch that's knackered?

A new one is expensive (£80) so you could always try to get a second hand one...

Here's a diagram of what's inside the EDC switch - if you remove it from the dash, you should be able to do the following things (presuming you've got a multimeter)

Probe the illumination (green/red) for 12v+

Check for continuity between pins depending on the switch position.

Cheers!
