Does any one know why the e61 touring did not come to the states... ...????

Because Americans prefer the Crossover SUV and don't like the mixture of practicality and performance.

It's strange market behaviour, you take either performance or practicality not both. It's such a big market so it's even more surprising.

Lack of demand and probably also the fact that it is costly to get a car model to pass all of the DOT requirements. I am sure at the end of the day, it didn't make financial sense for BMW. Sucks for us enthusiasts but it's usually always about the $...

What I don't understand is that MB brings the AMG wagon stateside that sells. Why not BMW?

I would have picked up touring M5 if it was available in the states. Folks in the states have no right to complain really since M5 cost sometimes half or less or what BMW charges in other parts of the world for the same car. You win some and lose some. As for why high powered Merc are available in touring here, who knows..
