** BMW recalls 1.3 million vehicles **
German luxury carmaker BMW is recalling more than a million cars worldwide because of potential battery problems that could cause a fire.

Not been able to get through to my service manager to check to see if the M5 is affected.

I was just going to ask the same question. I believe the battery terminals are the same. However, they probably won't have a fix for a few more months so we'll have plenty of time to find out. After the Toyota incident (which proved to be operator error, not the car), manufacturers will recall anything. President Obama is pushing for even stricter rules. I think we need to take a look at the cost to benefit ratio.

if it just got announced, there wouldn't be a TIS yet I don't think.

Anyways, being that my car has had zero issues since its build date in 2008, I'm not too concerned. I'm taking it into the dealer next week for routine maintenance and so I'll inquire about it.

I agree, just asking in advance to anyone who gets their hands on it first!

Call BMW of America and make sure they have you listed as the current owner of the car. I do this with every pre-owned car I purchase for situations like this.

Hmm...I have a service appointment this Thu. Wonder if they'll perform the recall work then or will make me come back in April?
