All stock SupraTT's run sequential turbos.

All Skyline GTRs (R32,R33and R34), which all essentially have the same RB26 engine, run parallel turbos. I owned all three models previously, although my R34 was converted to a big-single turbo.

In fact, for a decently powered, manual turbodiesel, you can acelerate quickly (speed wise, not distance wise, and yes, there is a diference!) by starting from 2nd gear.

About speed wise vs distance wise, i think for now it's enough stuff, but if you want I'll write a post about it.
Yeah i'm quite interested in this. You basicly are saying that you accelerate quicker when starting from second gear, but cover more meters in the same time when you start from 1st?

My wife has got a volvo S60 D5, a chiptuned one (200bhp, 440 nm), and the first gear indeed is useless, never bothered trying to start from second tho hmmm

I know I'm about 10 years behind on this forum but here goes.

I had a BMW E60 535d (2006) M sport. So here is my experience and facts.

Car was modified with:
Gutted DPF, Sports CAT, No muffler (straight pipes), No swirl flaps
Large intercooler
Hybrid turbos (had replacement with stock turbos that had done over 90k miles)
M5 sway bars
Uprated brakes etc.
Remapped from original remap 318BHP to a shocking 392BHP with around 580LBFT

I was told I could have gone close to over 400BHP, but my car had done around 100k at the time and tuner was saving this own back.

After mods I noticed massive power gains especially low end and second turbo over 3k revs pulled like a train and getting over 170mph very quick. So acceleration all seemed like I could over take a fighter plane! and then I came across a car that took me like I was stationary!!!

Behold this was a BMW E60 M5!!!!!

His acceleration and top end was something else, the handling, around corners my car felt like a jelly in comparison.

So conclusion - even after all the blasted mods and money/time spend - I was killed by the beast!!
Diesel is for economy ONLY - NOT POWER!!!

I sold my 535d and bought the all mighty E60 M5!!

OMG!!!! NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A CAR!!!!!! THE POWER IS IMMENSE!!!!

When i'm doing over 160MPH (mine is de-restricted) i feel like i'm doing 40MPH and sitting on my sofa not moving an inch!

M cars are something else!!!! forget the M3, M4 even the E39 M5.......try a E60 M5 with M mode enabled and you will be blown away!!!!! and never go back!!! if your worried about economy, then stick with the diesel!! if you can afford it, have both!!! 35d for weekdays and M5 for weekends!!!

I've had mods done to this one too! (list is too long), its doing around 570BHP and will take the F10 M5 anyday!!!!

To experience raw power you need to try the E60!!! the turbo powered F10 doesn't cut it, its more fun having a loud exhaust at 7000rpm and flying like a bullet than the F10.

That's all guys!! hope you enjoyed reading about my experience!!

Thanks!

I don't think 535i will be a match with the M5, even with a bolt on and re-mapped.

Its all about the driving experience and M5 is the only way.

The car is just setup and balanced so well that it can handle up to 600BHP, i don't think the 535i is setup the same, nor was the 535d i had.

Try or sit in an M5 at high speeds and all your questions will be answered.

I know many of us have got it in our heads that we have modified 35d's and 35i's and can take any car on the road, but unfortunately this is not true. Otherwise the M5 wouldn't have been born.

Please try the M5 to get the true facts! then decide from there!
