Hi there,

for the following thread:
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39-m5-e52-z8-discussion/420242-my-e39-m5-brakes-upgrade.html

I'm starting a new thread for a group buy to see how many people are interested. I will try to systematize the most important information for the entire brake kit, what do you get for the price and what other do you need to fit the brakes on your car.

1. What are you paying for
- custom made hard anodized bells for fitment with rotors below. Included steel ring in the rears for the handbrake.

- custom made powder coated steel brackets for fitment with the calipers below

(I don't have photos of the rears at the moment)

2. Other needed parts
- Front rotors 362 mm x 32 mm, pad depth 62 mm, 215.9mm P.C.D.
- Rear rotors 343 mm x 28 mm, pad depth 52 mm, 215.9mm P.C.D.

I know two brands that have rotors with the required parameters - Reyland and AP Racing:
https://www.apracing.com/products/race_car/brake_discs/ventilated_discs.aspx
Reyland Motorsport - tuning, rolling road, high performance brakes and Cosworth specialist - Discs

- Front calipers from Mercedes CLK55, CLK63, SLK55 with part numbers: 208885041A and 208885031A
0034206783 - CALIPER - ES#1616541
0034206883 - CALIPER - ES#1616542

- Rear calipers from Cayenne, Q7 or Touareg with part numbers: 208930051A and 208930061A

Important: Rear calipers from Cayenne are very big and there is very little free space for mounting. It was necessary to be done some rasp around the mointing hole of the calipers. About the fronts isn't needed such intervention. So the rear set is really customized and not so Plug&Play like Brembo GT kit.

Also on the Cayenne's rear calipers is located to the front of the car. On the M5 rear calipers is located to the rear of the car. The smaller piston should meet first the rotating disk, the bigger piston is second, so the following modification is needed:
Cayenne's calipers are simmetric up and down. The only one difference is on the one side there is tube for a brake fluid. Under that tube there is a small channel. So it is necessary to do the same channel on the other side of the caliper and move the tube there. Please look at the marked areas:

With this small modification calipers intended to be mounted to the front of the Cayenne could be mounted to the rear of the M5.

- Pads. They can be any, depending on your preferences. I'm using EBC Yellow Stuff but I think would be better to use recommended for AP Racing and Reyland rotors:
Reyland Motorsport - tuning, rolling road, high performance brakes and Cosworth specialist - Pads
Unfortunately I'm not sure if Ferodo DS2500 or DS3000 are available for CLK63 and Cayenne's calipers so I bought EBC Yellow from a local dealer with the following part numbers:
Fronts - DP41591R
Rears - DP41474R

- 4x Disc/Bell Mounting Kits 25 mm also are needed:
Reyland Motorsport - tuning, rolling road, high performance brakes and Cosworth specialist - Other Brake parts

- the front brake lines have to be with Banjo type bolts to fit without problems

3. Costs
Because of the manufacturer deal with Euro I would like to receive a payment in Euro.
6x to 10x full sets:
1180 EUR for a full set shipped to the US and Canada. Included 2x front brackets and bells/hats, 2x rear brackets and bells/hats with steel ring for the handbrake.
Only front set - 650 EUR shipped to the US and Canada
Only rear set - 700 EUR shipped to the US and Canada

For shipping to another countries just ask.

4. Final result

Thanks!

Awesome! Ramen noodles for a month? Let me think about this.

[EDIT] What kind of aluminum was the adapting bracket made out of? And as far as the rear parking brake hub not being floating that only matters if you're stupid enough to apply the parking brake after a track session, right?

Adapting brackets are made out of steel not aluminium, because we estimate would be more secure and strong. If you prefer it's possible to be made out of aluminium too.

Stock M5 rear rotors have similar steel ring, so I don't think it is an issue if apply parking brake in regular way (like parking brake exactly). But I definitely would avoid using my parking brake as emergency brake or braking by using it on a drift session let say...
