Hi

Has any of you driven both cars ? I have only driven the V8S and liked it a lot. It is a B10V8 for sale at the loca BMW shop. Its a 98 ALPINA blue with 123 000 km on it. It has been totaly repainted and looks nice. No damage on the car just very bad painting due to lot of small scratches.

Anyone with some advice to this kind of car. Is the power advantage off app 35 Hp noticable ?

I am a bit tempted.

I think Gustav posted a comparison recently which showed the V8S being quite a bit quicker. Also, there is supposedly quite a difference between the first V8 (340hp) and second V8 (347hp) in terms of torque.

According to those datas the difference between the 347 V8 and the 375 V8s is nothing at all.

The 97 V8 tested was 2 sec slower to 200 kph and a lot slower than any tested V8 I have ever seen.

I remember AMS had a test of the M5, B10 and the 540 6 speed.

The differnce between the M5 and the V8 was in that test very little. It was 0,2 sec to 100 kph and less than 2 sec to 200 kph.

I actually did not know that is was 2 different versions of the normal V8. I thought they all had 347 Hp.

Do any of you know when they changed from 340 to 347 Hp ?

Yes, it was when the 540i got double-VANOS and 460 Nm (I think it was). Naturally the B10 V8 also got double VANOS.

Regarding M5 I beleive the later M5 (2001 and forward) are much more stronger than the earlier ones.

V8S is 5.4 secs
