So both are South-Africa made? That's interestering, very rare. Pity you cannot get some build sheets for these, would have been interesting to compare with the Euro and US cars.

Do you know if that leather interior that was mentioned in another thread, is a standard feature on all SA?

Hi

AfricaOffroad I bought the white one, Got it yesterday but im not too happy, theres oil in the nr 5 spark plug hole and the car is leaking oil heavy.

Most of the components in the engine bay doesn't line up, the radiator is tightened with cable ties, the brake fluid holder is being held upright with a home made strap, the aircon pipes isnt connected, the airfilter doesnt line up with the mounting holes.
I don't understand why the things doesn't line up.

Will try to sort the thing out from Monday.

Leet, welcome to the Board.
Lets see some pics of the car, close ups of the problems you describe.

You will get lots of advice here on how to correct issues. R37 000, what can you buy for that kind of money these days?

Oil leaks - make sure one of them is not your cam chain tensioner diaphram - if so , immediately replace with the unit from the E36 3.2 M3 - dont mess around, if your motor goes pop because of this you're in for big $$$.

BTW, where you based? JHB?

First of all, Leet nice collection of cars in that garage of yours !!!

From your pics its clear that the E34 has had a front end rebuild. Your grill is the wide version found on later cars, its not the 1992 original. Bonnet has also been changed to match the new grill. Lots of missing original clips on the radiator, clutch resevoir - it should be installed in front of the coil with a small steel fabricated bracket.

As you say the airbox is not lining up at all. The little rubber mounts are missing, although it does not matter as they wouldn't line up anyway.

I suspect poor workmanship and attention to detail during the front end repair is the root cause of all the misalignment. dont think you have an easy job getting it all sorted.

Looks like they put a M-sports package bumper from the normal E34-series on the car, no M5 bumper at least.

Pics of different bumpers can be found here: http://www.e34m5.se/forum/fangare.asp

There is a part missing for the airbox also, a thick isolated hose that goes all the way down to the backside of the lights.

What's in that container to the left (pic 7 below the BMW text)? Don't think I have seen that on Euro or US spec cars.

What's the interior like Leet Pro? Leather? Any photos?

Thank you, very nice.

It looks like the M5s non-airbag steering wheel, however without the M badge? That's strange.

They swapped the gear knob to the aftermarket one from BMW (with the M letter), other than that it looks completely original?

Yes I cant believe the good condition of the door panels, it looks almost brand new.
The gear knob also looks brand new and it illuminates when the lights are switched on.
Do you know if the early dolphin shape (E36) steering wheel will fit the 1992 m5 ?

Your steering wheel is the same as mine, except mine has a //M logo embedded in the lower spoke.

Your uphostery is interesting, mine does not have the coloured //M logos embedded in the seat up rights. Also my door pads are completely different, I have to find out if they were modified by the original owner (mine is a 1 owner vehicle)

Could anyone of you ask your locar dealer for a build sheet? That is, if you have a dealer nearby. The build sheets I have in the M5 register just show the build date for SA-M5s, no upholstery or colour. Would be fun if more info on these rare cars were possible. Because only 265 were made.
The dealer will need your VIN I think (last seven digits starting with BB).

My local dealer is just 5km down the road from me. I know them very well and am able to gain access to all their service records.

By coincidence my E34 was bought new from them, and all its services to date were done exclusively by them.

I'm going to go see the Service Manager and Dealer Principle and see if I can get the build records for my car. I think I'm also going to contact the original owner and see what he has to say about my car's history

AfricaOffroad, how keen is BMW to work on your car ?
Im afraid they will tell me my car is too old ?
Did you see the 1991 M5 for sale in Somerset West ?

The owner of this car posts under the user name "Unknown" on the www.cartoday.com South African forum. He only recently bought it but has decided to resell, feeling it will take too much time and money to get 100% correct.

BMW will always work on your car, but they are not shy to charge. Rather find a non franchise workshop who specialises in the cars. I'm fortunate that in Durban I have 2 very good options who I can turn to.

Post some pics of that exhaust system.

I'm in Nespruit first weekend in May - the 4 day long weekend, visiting my BIL and Sister.

Wouldn't mind hearing that exhaust system of yours
