I've got a colleague who has one of the last Limited Edition E34 M5s. He's had the car for 5 years and it's only done about 60k miles with full BMW UK history, respray, new tyres & M wheels etc. It is a great fresh looking original spec M5 and was putting my E39 M5 to shame with it's stonechips on the bonnet so much that i got it resprayed too!!

He's looking to trade in to get an E39 M5 but has been offered truly ridiculous money-sub £10k, even by specialists-have the values in the UK really taken that much of a hammering as the E39 gets cheaper?

Can anyone suggest a price band to look for or a specialist that would be interested? Any hints would be very useful to him. (Or I could just buy it off him for an insultingly low price.....)

Thanks

David

A good L/E with those miles will be worth around the 12K to 14K. You will however have to wait for the right buyer though when wanting this kind of money.

Is it the rosso red or the green?

It's a Green One-should have mentioned!

That value of £12-14k is more like the value that he was expecting and he CAN wait for a buyer-he's not desperate to sell. Looks like I won't be able to buy it off him for insultingly low money after all....

David, I bet he's been offered 4-6 k as a trade in value, I was offered 4k for my car from a dealer. I would agree with M5P, for the mileage on the car it should be worth around 10 - 11 k but I doubt you will find anyone who would pay that amount in a hurry. At the end of the day it is still a 3.8 M5 so it doesn't really offer much more other than colour / trim over any other 3.8 6 speed. I note you never mentioned warranty, for top dollar a warranty would be essential, theres a guy on the board 'final edition m5' who has a nice (only seen pic's) LE with warranty & 70 odd K miles for sale at the moment for around 11.5 - 12k but he has been trying to sell it since January or thereabout's. So, for a quick sale I think sub 10k. I have heard of a LE selling for around 8k with warranty before. One big point is that there are less e34 M5's available in Scotland so a higher price would be justified, IMHO. If he is not in too much of a rush to sell it I might be interested around the end of May, once he's fed up waiting on a buyer and desperate to sell..;)
Cheers,
Phil.

I'm up in Aberdeen, had to travel to London to get an E34 M5 in January this year, they are indeed rare cars in Scotland - think there are only a handful, maybe five or six, around here, and there was only ever what 139 RHD six-speeders made in total, incl. the 50 LEs?

Mine is a Nov 1994 six-speeder in Avus with Silver leather, got all the toys. Genuine car, 63k miles only, unfortunately out of warranty though. Seller was adverising at £13,000 but eventually i took it away for £10,500.

At the time there were two LE ones i enquired about, both Orinoco, one at Munich Legends at £15,500 (since dropped to around £14,000 i believe) and a private one owned by a member on this board, he was asking £14,000 but said would take £12,500 at the time, it has since reappeared on eBay saying £11,500 would buy it, i don't know if it's ever changed hands.

Cheers,
David.

OK gents, sorry to add fuel to the fire, but I have never seen another RHD diamond black 3.8 with black leather for sale. Given that there are 50 LE's, does that make my car even rarer?!?!! Does anyone have the actual figures... Karl?

For what its worth I will never sell mine anyway!!

Cheers,
Bryn.

Davido164, I think I've seen this car heading ito town on the Hamilton road one or twice...

I was offered under £2k for my car as trade in last year against a £16k-17k car, and that was without the sales guy even bothering to look at the condition of my car.

I am actually toying with selling and to be honest, I know I'll end up giving it away

:crying2: ;) Not until I started to look recently for a black on black 3.8 did I realise yours is the only one I've ever seen...

Thanks for your help with this. I'll pass on the mixture of good and bad news to him. It seems crazy that you can all be offered so little for such cracking cars when you are looking to trade in.

The car is out of warranty also-I know that this will dent the value by at least £1,000.

wud the present owner allow you to tell us either the number XX/50 of this car or the last three figures of the VIN, like GEXX373 ?? -
it wud be very much appreciated, this is to complete the list of the LE's cars
known to be alive, thks for considerating it... (this documentation is a contribution to keep awareness and if possible values up)

as you might know I concentrate on the -M5touring- with some -special editon-saloons- as a side-project only, the LE´s are 15/rosso red + 35/orinoco, as 'diamantschwarz-met.' is a very commom colour for the 3.8 M5
it is likely there are more, the colour was however replaced with 'cosmosblack-met.' when the 6-speed-model (95) was introduced -
how about starting a -UK-E34-3.8-M5-registry-, anyone ?? with 139 cars at the most this is not a 'mission impossible' for the real enthusiast, how abt it
-Bryn- ?? that way you will KNOW ;)

The car is number 5 of 50-hope that this helps. Thanks for all your advice thus far.
