I was adjusting the bonnet (hood) gaps and height today and removed the DME and fuse box covers to enable access to the rear guide rail bolts.

I noticed that the VIN sticker on my DME was for another UK blue '93 car - car #120 whereas mine is #92.

Anyone have that car? I'm interested to know whether the DME was swapped at some point (would have been before my ownership 11-12 years ago), or whether th VIN number doesn't matter, or whether the moustachioed men of Garching put the wrong one in since they're both blue.

Appreciate any pointers.

my guess would be the dme went out and it was swapped with a used one. Have you checked the registry to see if that car 'exists' or maybe was wrecked/parted?

I think it's unlikely your car was built with the wrong dme.

Thanks. Yes, checked the car VIN and it's a UK car, same colour and year. Didn't say scrapped and the DME must have been changed quite some time ago.

The vin sticker on the DME typically matches the vin of the chassis in my experience .

I'll have a look at my database and see if I have any records on 120 .
