Does Tubi get louder with time?

I just had one installed... my first "mod" ever, yay me! kinggf
Anyway, I definitely did notice a difference between stock and Tubi, but I'd prefer it a bit louder... Will it get louder with more miles on it or is that wishful thinking?

GruppeM CAI and powerchip are next on my wishlist, completing the "sound and breathing" improvements :) I know this is nothing compared to what some of you have on your cars, but hey, it's a start :p

Good to hear that the Tubi has been installed. The Tubi has been shown to get louder over time. I was driving my M5 though the streets of London yesterday, and was thinking how wonderfully balanced the Tubi is. When accelerating through some of the streets near Westminster, I was getting a lot of looks from the folks walking around. I often feel that in order to fully appreciate the Tubi, one must first install a very loud exhaust, and after a few months come back and provide a new opinion. Loud exhausts sound great at times (20% of the time for that matter), but can be very irritating if the M5 is being used as a daily driver. The Tubi does provide the overall best of all worlds.

Also, the M5 has very good cabin insulation, so a quick drive with the windows lowered, will demonstrate the true sound the Tubi is making.

Have fun with the Tubi, and let me know when you are ready for the GruppeM. We have the carbon fiber version in stock in California.

Cheers.

PS We have several Tubis incoming, anyone interested can contact us at beastpower@beastpower.com.

I have maybe 1,000 miles on mine now. They are bit louder than when first installed. (Daniel, will they continue to get louder still?) They are not loud inside the cabin, but enough of that sweet sound comes through to enjoy them. They are plenty loud enough outside the car. I use my car as a daily driver so didn't want really loud exhausts, which can get annoying. :M5launch:

rost12,
We should meet up again for a little exhaust comparison. :7:
The truth is......I can't wait to listen to your Tubi exhaust. lovelove

I'm driving up to Mosport today (just watching, for now), and I'll be hanging out and about with a fellow bimmer head later on tonight, so give me a call at 416 829 6168 if you have to time to do something today :)

I, in turn, can't wait to hear your impressions of your new clutch kinggf

They shouldn't get any louder after 1,000 miles. The main reason that the Tubi doesn't sound very loud from inside the cabin, is due to the great noise isolation of the M5 cabin. In many other cars it would be very loud.

Cheers.

The Tubi continues to get louder over time. I have about 8k miles on mine and it gets a lower frequency to it over time. It is not that noticable because of the above stated insulation reasons, but it will get louder like almost any exhaust system will over time.

You will definatively enjoy the way it "ages".

First of all Thanks to BeastPower for helping us get those TUBI's!

What I have noticed everytime I get off the freeway is that they do seem louder then when I got on. I'm not sure if it's the heat or just the high continous revs while at freeway speeds, but in fact they are LOUDER and DEEPER. Anyone else experience this? It is also deeper during start-up, then whne the revs automatically lower, the sounds goes down as well.

Yes, I noticed the same thing.

I agree with Ocean. The Tubi is louder on intial start-up and it quiets down once you get going. This is to let your neighbors know that they need to stay out of your way in the morning! Then again, my x-pipe did the same thing with the stock cans.

try this...

If your beast has the optional fold-down rear seats, try this: I just drove my tubi-beast with the seats folded down in the back. Wow - sounds nice! I'm going to leave them down for a while!

My Beast is better than yours ELEVENS because my seats don't fold down... :1:

J/k Glad to hear it. Since I don't have them I'll have to drive with my head out the window like Jim Carrey in that movie... ouich
Sammy,
I've owned the car for 14 months and used the fold-downs exactly twice. The first time was to pick up the tubis at Tubi USA in Holland, MI. But the car sounds much better with the seats down and this time the tubis are UNDER the car. Most of the rest of the 14 months, I have to listen to the seat rattling :confused3

Do you mean the movie Dumb and Dumber?

My Tubi definitely got a bit louder over time (perhaps 20%). It also seems to get louder when driving in the rain. Maybe the water splashing on the mufflers causes the steel wool to shrink?

Agreed,

I absoloutely love the sound when you first fire it up. I wish it would stay like that sometimes. But yes, it settles down after warm up.

When I first put it on, I didn't think it was much different from stock until I put a few km's on it. But now it is perfect. Yes it did get louder in a good way. Its not intrusive or overdone.

On the odd occassion it is slightly under-done. But thats most likely also a good thing.

Very pleased with the TUBI, the Powerchip for the TUBI made it even sweeter. :flag:

I am in the process of buying the Tubi's but I wanted to know what the resonators are for. What are there purpose and why did Tubi put them on.

Marion,

Its all about sound isolation. The resonators further the deadening process as well as add 35lbs to the car! Tubi is definatively louder and better sounding than stock, but in a posative way, even with the Tubi resonators. The x-pipe will get rid of the resonators on any exhaust.

Are you losing any horse power by having the resonators on? If so what do you gain by remove them?

The purpose of the resonators is to reduce.....resonance! Flat or mostly flat panels have a spot or two in the frequency spectrum where they resonate, which can cause an unpleasant booming sound inside the car. The resonators help tune this out. As for backpressure, yes, the Tubis I'm sure are tuned to give just the right amount. Obviously they could have just done without them to save cost and weight, but they put them there for a purpose. They also help give the exhaust that famous Tubi "wail." So if you get the Tubis I highly recommend you keep and install the resonators that come with them. :M5launch:

Mvious,

From what I understand it is actually the opposite. When adding an X-pipe you may loose a few hp, but nothing really noticable. I beleive this is caused by the exhaust being overly free flowing with not enough back pressure.

Can anybody verify or correct me on this?

Travis
Travis,

I never experienced a loss with the x-pipe. In fact just the opposite, I realized a gain.

Try some lubrication on the latches, such as a light grease. It worked on my E36 M3.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try some silicone grease on the latches. I noticed there's a different rattle when the seats are folded down, and appears to be coming from the M-audo speaker area :crying:

My understanding of this was that using the X-Pipes - you actually gain about 5HP.

BeastPower (Dan) - could you verify this for us please?
