Not sure if this what you are looking for but the e60 M5 has an OBD II port on the driver footwell that any OBD II reader (AUTOZONE, PEP BOYS) can read and reset. I've actually done it a few times, the only problem is some of these code readers won't tell you what the problem actually is, but they can reset the service engine soon light (check engine).
