Will a Dinan st.2 suspension be compatible between an e39 540i and an e39 M5? I'm fearing it will not, but if anyone here knows that it will please speak up :) Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I wonder if the spring rates are different or shock valving?

Dinan PN e39M5 = D190-5722K
Dinan PN e39540 = D190-5717K

my goal is to swap the stock M5 suspension with the Dinan St2 suspension on an '01540.

So you have stock M5 suspension already on your 540i ?

I have an '01540i with a Dinan St2 suspension on it in the family. I'm thinking of purchasing an '03M5 for myself and would love to transfer the Dinan suspension over to the M5, and then swap the stock M5 suspension to the 540i. I have a feeling that it may not work, but am unsure.

Not sure about 540 springs on the M5, but the stock M5 suspension will probably raise your lighter 540 a little. At least that's the common thing reported on various forums.

this is not a bad thing as my parents are annoyed at the low ride height/stiff spring rates...

What I need to know is that these two suspensions are definitely interchangeable?

The reason I question this so much is that most are not interchangeable. For example, an e36 3er does not have interchangeable suspension with an e36 M3 so I'm a bit gunshy :) If someone can prove to me that it's been done, I'd greatly appreciate it - esp say a susp expert or master tech. If it's been done, great...just let me know!

It wouldn't be the spring rates and shock valving that should be the major concern, but whether any of the components sought to be swapped would fit, as the M5 may have various pieces that might differ slightly in some dimensions or have different mounting points. I just don't know. It may be that everything fits. I do know that, for example, in e46 cars, the M3 takes different front shocks than other 3 series because certain mounting points (e.g. for the sway bar) are in different places. So your concern is a good one.
