I heard that BMW GB said that derestricting the M5 will not invalidate the warranty. Is this a big job I wonder ? I remember when we wanted the CSL derestricted in the UK - the dealer required a copy of my racing licence.

Anyone believe this is still the case ? :M5thumbs:

Now it really seems to be true what i've read!!!

With 378 kW of power, 520 Nm of torque, a top speed limited to 250 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds, BMW says it has no authority over any customer wishing to have their car de-restricted to achieve the 326 km/h top speed, and confirmed that by de-restricting the car it would not invalidate the car's warranty.

Lee Connolly said: "In reality having a de-restricted car is all about customer talk, fashion and 'mine's a de-restricted' attitude' - it is an emotional thing to have it. "If the car is being used for track days or motor sport that is a different issue".

On which race track you'll hit the Vmax, me wonders?
It's more of an Autobahn thing, IMO.

If you tell your dealer to, is it possible to get it de-limited from the factory? As an individual option?

Well, then we just have to force our dealer to do so, or give us a cut down in price so we can visit a tuner and get it done :haha:

Yep we are getting ours derestricted when it goes in for the 1200mile service, then it is going to the nring, and the autobahn 2 weeks later.

This means we can see how fast the new m5 is against the r turbo at high speeds

What do you mean exactly????

Is it possible to get the M5 derestricted in the UK??

At a BMW dealer????

At what cost? Warranty? Which speed?

When did BMW M take this decision????

Not on the public highway but maybe somewhere like Bruntingthorpe.

Of course, a number of us UK owners drive on the continent where the roads are much better (Germany, France etc.).

You may have seen the post about Hartge's conversion. This includes a limiter removal and is done officially in the UK by Birds of Uxbridge. I suggest anyone attempting this confirm with them as to the status of the BMW warranty & related insurance implications before proceeding.

Surprise surprise the BMW do not have the software ready yet to derestrict the car.

However we still took to germany, and had 3 fantastic days on the ring with it.

But a comparison with the r turbo would be very interesting,

Also at brunters the car would do well to break 170mph. The only place to really Vmax the car is on germanys autobahns.

all the best
