Well, after over 8 years of running a March Madness office pool, we were shut down. HR caught wind of it, we think by e-mail spam filters. They had to address it so they asked us to return the money. No reprimands because of the number and high profile people in the pool. Participants all the way up to VP were in on it. 80 people in all.
We had a special gmail e-mail account set up to deliver daily news updates, links etc (we think this is what they picked up on-too many people used their work e-mail to receive the updates). A web page was build with instructions, rules, standings reports including standings by potential points and round winners. You would go to the site, download the selection grid which was in Excel, send the Excel file back in via e-mail, it was then imported into a central Access database. This database would run our reports then we .pdf'd them and loaded them on the web page. Pretty cool but it just got too big. Oh well, nice run while it lasted.

64 of the best college basketball teams are matched up against eachother. Each team is seeded from 1 to 16 in 4 bracket divisions.
Round one is 64 teams (32 games). The winners advance to round 2 (16 games). Round 2 winners advance to round 3 (8 teams) and so on until one team ends up the champion. Here is the bracket.
You pay a fee to enter the pool. You make your predictions on all games in all rounds. You also need to predict a score for the final game to be used as a tiebreaker. Each round win is worth a certain amount of points. The round 1 winner wins 4%. The round 2 winner wins 3%. The round 3 winner wis 3%. At the end of the tournament, the top 3 winners win 60%, 20% and 10% respectively. The total pot was $800 this year.
