I suspect fuel pump I tried search but could not come up with a detailed diag procedure there is fuel the tank but the fuel pump was really hot to touch any other suggestions guys? do I have to change both or can get away with the right side one thanks guys. Sprayed some starter fluid ran for a few and dies no codes

Do you have an E39 M5? I ask because I don't know how you figured out the fuel pump was hot to the touch.

OK, sorry for the question but a lot of people on here wouldn't have known how to do that.
Probably best to look at the filter first. BMW figured the filter was good for the lifetime of the car. Wrong. If the pump has to push against a plugged filter, it will get really hot. And if it's getting hot, it's probably running OK.

makes sense, 68fb already ordered fuel filter, pump and the relay! did not want to have it die out on me this time was on a "date night" with the lady embarrassed in a row truck lol thanks for the help anyway brother
