Hi everybody.

I am in the market but i cant make up my mind between the two. coming from a z4M convertible, i tried the M6 convert first and was blown away but I prefer the look of the coupe (and the way i look in it).

Does anyone have any experience with either of both? IS there any real word performance differences?

I test drove both. I picked the coupe. I did get them both up to speed (maybe 90-95 not enough to worry the sales guy) and thought the coupe felt a bit more solid. I will add the sound system in the coupe is really first class. Now that I have the coupe "Ravels Bolero" never sounded so good even at 110. Wind noise is so minimal.

I don't know about performance differences but i recommend the convertible if it is not your daily driver, it makes it that much more special.

The coupe is best, unless you prefer the cab.

Performance will be better in the coupe but to me its splitting hairs as I don't race or drag the car. Powerful and fast is powerful and fast. So it comes down to driving a coupe that will impress the guys because its a M6 or a vert that will impress the guys as well since its still a M6 but drive the women insane because it just looks so f...ing hot (quote from a female coworker).:15:

That's true. Most women will drop their panties at first sight of a nice M6.

I would have to say Cab.. best of both worlds. Yes, you give up a little speed for the extra fun factor of the top down, IMO. I was a little weary of the cab at first, but after having it... No regrets. California weather is usually pretty great! =)... and driving fast with the top down is exhilarating. Good luck... ultimately, either is fine.. its an M6! =)

The coupe and vert are both amazing. However, I have driven the coupe extensively at the track and at the BMW performance center. The coupe is without a doubt a better performer in the straights. In the turns, there is hardly a noticeable difference imo. They built the car very well, and amazing how well the vert can handle.

I don't agree with the comments that the cabrio feels worse or any different. I think BMW did a good job on the development of the car and made sure you could not feel a difference.

With that said, I have always been a "performance" over looks guy. Then my wife insisted on the convertible....2 times lol....so we ended up with the cabrio. After driving it top down with after-market exhaust I found that we made the right choice. Someone, somewhere always has a better and faster car than you. I mean this weekend we saw a Koenigsegg CCXR and a Saleen S7. How do you compete with those? Therefore, just buy what you want and don't worry so much about .3 seconds in the 1/4 mile that you loose from having a cabrio! And if you are married, wear your wedding ring lol. I made that mistake one time on a nice sunny day and got asked for 2 rides from women who asked why I wasn't married haha....it will happen, trust me lol.

Some appreciate top-down motoring and others don't. You seem to be the former so I think that should solve your dilemma.

Both the coupe and convertible are heavy GT cars, and both come with more performance than anyone can use on the street.

I love my vert! You can use it roof down a fair bit as the heated seats/ventilation/heating system is very good.

I looked at coupes and convertibles and from my experience the verts were better looked after.

Go for a brighter interior colour, sets it of nicely with the roof down.

Get one of each! I prefer my coupe because I do alot of high speed driving on the autobahn and don't think I could stand it in a cabrio. Just my preference. Like most folks here say, get what you like. If I wasn't in Germany driving hard I probably would have a vert for the open air feeling.

I have driven the cab with the top down at 170 and up at 170. Both were not a bad feeling. Actually I was very surprised with it...

I may have to reconsider my stance then. Who remapped your software?

Stock mapping, but GPS confirmed me at 170. Speedo read 175. I have heard it should not do this...but it does lol. I can't get higher than 169/170 without a ECU flash I guess. I would like to test it at 200 with the top down....not sure if that is a smart idea, but what the hell :biggrinbounce:

Have to agree. I've done the same. The rush of driving 170 with top down was awesome. Some wind noise but with a wind deflector and windows up with top down it wasn't that bad. Of course I only drove this fast for a minute. I have drive in lower triple figures for 30 plus minutes and still able to listen to radio. The experience of top down driving with this car is amazing.

I was surprised car got to 170 before limiter kicked in, I thought these cars were limited to 155

I couldn't say it any better than that. You get slightly more performance with the coupe, but you get the top down with the cab. I would buy the cab again.

I looked at both and chose the Cab without reservation. I would guess that at least 55K of my 60K miles have been with the top down.
