Hello esteemed members of the M5Board,

I'm currently considering a 2002 E39 M5 with 151,300 on the clock. Car looks to be in decent condition, though I can't personally inspect it due to the current unpleasantness. Carfax shows two owners, two accidents to the front and rear in the mid 16's. cylinder heads removed/machined, rebuild of both vanos with gaskets, hoses, and seals. Received an inspection report that shows potential leak of the oil pan gasket.

What are peoples thoughts on this. What should I be asking? Looking for? Pricing is 17's, but probably mine for high 16.

Currently driving an '11 M3 Convertible. Love it, but the E39 M5 is one of my all-time favorites. I appreciate your advice and guidance.

Given the less-than-stellar Carfax and the mileage, high sixteens sounds a little rich. I would drive a hard bargain or else keep looking.

I agree that unless there's evidence of some more parts/care over its lifetime, 150k with just vanos and some accidents is no way worth more than $15k (in my eyes). . .

Best to save a tad more and get a no accident good condition one.
