The clutch in my 3.8 5 spd is just beginning to slip under heavy load. It needs replacing obviously. Anyone recommend a source for a new unit or is it main stealer only?

Cheers

Kurt, I seem to recall ECP listing a clutch for 3.8 5sp, around £160 + VAT. I've heard fitting is quite a big job though, i.e. 5-6hrs. It might be worth checking out the hydralic circuit, I've never looked, but if there are any flexi hose's then your slip could be caused by a hose contracting when you lift the pedal preventing the release bearing from returning fast enough.
Cheers,
Phil.

Thanks for the tips. I've since been quoted about 350GBP including fitting for an OE (LUK) unit by my trusty local guy, which will be sufficient for my needs.

Phil - I'm pretty sure your hydraulic suggestion isn't my problem. The car drives fine until you really load the throttle, and I've never come across contracting hoses before. Expanding ones, yes....

Thanks

Kurt,

GSF can supply a standard clutch kit for about £200. Mine was described as LUK and sure enough it came in a box marked LUK but inside was a Sachs identical to standard.

Changing it is easy enough. The problem is taking off the centre exhaust section + cat's also the heat shield and centre bearing support (to enable the shaft to come away from the box). Once that lots out of the way its as easy as a Mk1 Escort!

Cheers ECM4. This fits with my info from elsewhere re supply. As for installation, I'm afraid that's been delegated. My trusty spanner has discovered a slightly leaky rear crankshaft oil seal which will be done at the same time. Hopefully back on the road by middle of next week....
