Local dealer wanted about $US3000 to replace clutch and flywheel.
So I bought the (OEM) clutch and flywheel from Dial-a-Clutch, bought various odds and ends (rear main seal, trans mounts, clutch lever, BMW oil, etc) here and there, and my parts came to about $800. I took the car to a generic auto repair shop that my 540i buddy swears by, and dropped it off for a few days for them to do the clutch, flywheel, and RMS.
Labor bill: $576.00. So my total cost was $1376. And because the clutch was OEM, no chattering and no fitment problems. And as far as the job not being done by a certified BMW mechanic: believe me, a clutch job in an M5 is not rocket science.
BTW, the original clutch lasted 90k miles.
