My M5 gave me a "Check Brake Lamps" warning intermittently. Turns out one of the bulbs was in wrong. Dealer diagnosed and fixed it free-of-charge.

My MID displays "check fog light" but both are new and this is an intermittant issue. If my light are set to auto, all lights come on regardless. If the are off i ocasionally get the lamp error. The wiring seems fine but I hooked up a code reader and I get a communication error according to my code book. Any suggestions?
The reason all your lights are coming on immediately when your headlamps are set to Automatic is because you've got your fog lamps turned on. This bypasses the ambient light sensor for the automatic headlamps, and just turns everything on when the ignition is on. You could be parked on the surface of the sun and the lights would still automatically illuminate.

If you turn your foglamp switch off, your auto headlamps will come on when it's dark enough.

As far as your error goes, have you tried a different set of bulbs? Could be a manufacturer defect in one of the bulbs.

Also, to add to this thread, when my driver's side AiB was operating intermittently a year ago, my 'Check Side Lights' warning came up on the dash.
