hi guys .

i have a question about the picture that i added below.i did a searh but nothing came up, so it intriged me that mutch that i got to ask this..:3:

its called a x flow downpipe.what is this??? is this a cat replacement system or something in that direction??? but then where are the o2 sensor mounting holes.it cant be an x pipe due to the strange design so it isnt that i think.

maybe someone got this installed???

any info would be great thank you.:byee55amg

This is an X pipe.

See the part in the middle of the picture where the 2 tubes come together and then split apart again? Looks like an X.

This replaces the factory resonator, not the mufflers or cats (unless you don't want to drive on the street).

The function is 1) to change the sound of the exhaust, and 2) at least in theory, it increases horsepower slightly by increasing exhaust flow.

The O2 sensors still need to be installed in the exhaust - I don't know whether they fall into this section of the exhaust or are upstream of it.

i thought this to Doug at first, but why are there two mountingplates in that picture then as whe know that iff it is a xpipe, normally whe just cut after the cats and slide the x pipe over..not bolt them on to anything. and whats up with the strange design (bends)off this pipes.thats strange to.

i got a x pipe on my car,and its after the x straith to the back before they split to the both sides. that counts also for the supersprint x pipe, so no bends at all.

thats why i doubt the x-pipe thought in the first place, and assumed that it was a cat replacement or something.

I didn't say it was a conventional X-pipe, just that it was an X-pipe ;)

Since you have one, you'll be in a much better position to comment on whether it is long enough to bypass the cats - I can safely say I don't know!

I concur with a lot of what you said, especially as it relates to the bends at the end - perhaps it isn't for the M but is instead for a 540?

yeah you will be probably right Doug.

now that i think about it, it cant be a cat replacement because the headers underneath the car come more apart then the mountingplates that are shown on the picture.or there must be some connectorpipes in between the headers and that pipe ...that could be to.ouichand the bends on the end for the whole exhaust to be in line for the x pipe. but then 2 x in the exhaustline is to good to be true i think ouichouich my imagination is running wild...:3:

for a 540i,hmmm,could be but then the bend on the end should run the other way right because the muffler is on the drivers side.

i know , i ask difficult questions :haha:

strange fact is that its listed in the racing dynamics catalog for the tuned RD s62 b50 engine.maybe its just misplaced in the catalog then, because i never saw that item once before on any e39 m5 s62.

o well the truth will come out ,one day :hihi:

I think this picture shows an x-pipe from a six-inline engine!

Have a look on the "S" at the end of the pipes - this will not fit our beasts.

:hihi::hihi: i know how it looks :hihi: i got a britalman x pipe myselfhmmm.

it just pulled my attention on the RD site because i know that there is a cat replacement pipe that you can buy for the e46 m3 by supersprint. thats why i thought that this maybe was made for our cars to, but maybe never was commercialised/ or a new product.

in the first item on the site, where you can see a full engine tuning the item that i mentioned, is there to. so it got to be for a e39 m5 s62.

thats why i am so curious :3: about what it is.

im saving up for new headers thats why im interested that mutch.

Sunny///m5 ;those on the pics are the headers from bremgo dont they...i bidded twice on those puppy's .auction always stops before the end time dammit.
i want those :hihi::hihi:

You are right - bremge sells different parts from hartge.
Hartge do not sell their headers anymore.

The first headers went to an m-forum.de member for € 1.100,00 (about $ 1.600,00!), the next where sold for € 1.500,00 - but I was also always to late :sad2:

Maybe I can get an copy of original M GmbH headers build for the s62 from asia (we sent pics and lengths to the manufacturer) - but I do not know when they will be made and if they fit well ...
... and I want headers this spring!

Close but no prize for you

the function is
1) to evenly split, smoothe, and synchronize exhaust pressures at all engine speeds. The high and low pressure pulses in the two pipes are evenly imposed on each other, leveling out the pulse time history pressure differences between right and left cylinder banks. Re-synchronizing the exhaust pulses reduces back pressure, cancels sound, and provides additional scavenging. Tests have showed 6 dBa (75%) reduction in sound levels, and increases of 10 to 30 hp, and up to 40 ft-lbs. of torque! Economy, and throttle response are improved. Exhaust flow after the crossover is completely smoothed out. The job the headers started is finished

2)the sound changes are a by product of the synchronized exhaust.

It looks familiar....maybe Supersprint?
