I know away also but I am sure that it would be easier to fix what exists. You say it is intermittent, So when it won't start what does it do? IE nothing , cranks but won't start , different symptoms say different things. I posted the PDF so you would come back and say these are the symptoms and it is ews __? 528 I am guessing is a ewsII but you don't give the year of the car. If you say cycling the key brings things back with out realigning with the DME it will be something like a bad key or dead antenna, something easily fixed. If the EWS has to be constantly realigned that will be different.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't cranking or anything but I could be wrong. I'm gonna go talk to him later.
I remember him mentioning that its not the signal to the starter but to the injectors..
Its an EWSIII.

Some other questions would be, has he tried another key? Has he checked the volts of the battery in the car when this is going on? Has he ever got the EWS realigned with the DME? are the symptoms always the same? Do you or he know anyone with BMW diagnostic software?

Ill find out and report back.
He has the DIS/GT1 with the coding head.
The coding "button" was grayed out when he went to try and get into it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I'm also having the same problem, tried PM'ing London Mike but I don't have permission, could anyone help out by PM'ing me a bypass solution? I have a MYDec99 M5. Thanks in advance.

Simon.

You have no posts and you are asking to disable the EWS system? Hmmm. There is a member here that offers this service and the way he does it you would have to have the car so I guess this won't be aiding theft. If you search EWS and use the user name blackknight530i then post in that thread he may post back to you or start a new thread and add @ in front of his name so he gets a notice. He will probably read this thread but may have alarms going off like I do.

As said up in the post it is likely caused by a simple issue why don't you gain some credibility and answer all the questions I asked of Rosemount.

@Sailor24 I completely understand your alarm bells, just to make myself clear I actually used to have a different profile on here but when the forum updated a few years ago I actually lost all my details and my email accounts due to a lovely bit of cyber theft on the playstation network. My old profile name was "Bungle383" and I spoke to you in particular regarding a few issues I had when I originally bought my car. Since then I actually haven't been very active due to a few reasons, one my work takes a lot of time off my hands, two I have never been a big forum using kinda guy and three because of some of the overly pretentious responses I have seen on some of the posts, due to a lot of owners being very "OEM is best" and "just supercharge it". In fact you're one of the few people on here that is very helpful.

In fact just to maybe give you a little peace of mind there is a picture of my car on this forum in the spotted section, you will have to go back to around june/July 2012 but the VRN is W***OAG and it's a Silverstone MYDec99.

Anyway enough of that, the reason why I asked for @London Mike is because I'm from the UK and I am actually track prepping the car and wanted to do away with keys altogether. The other reason why I asked if there was any easy way round is because I'm in the British forces based in Germany and I don't get much time to travel with the car to various people to work on it so I have to do it myself. You can check my Instagram account (silas383) if you need a little more confirmation.

Thanks for your time and as I said before I do completely understand the alarm bells ringing.

Seems reasonable. If you are in the UK try contacting Evolve or other tuner companies. Basically you present your DME they take it and recode it. I don't know if it can be done remotely. It is not a complicated procedure.
You could always try a visitor message to Mike you don't need posts for that. Click his name choose public profile and then visitor message. He has not posted since 2015 so ....

@sailor 24 honesty prevails my friend.

OK cool, I'd also read about bmwflash from bimmerforums but from what you're saying is that any decent tuner who has the ability to crack our DME should have the ability to delete the EWS? I have a couple near me nd I also have Manhart a couple of hours away in Wuppertal.

Many thanks,

Simon.

I just bought a donor bimmer for my car, e39 528i 1998 but it doesnt run. I thought I would be able to make it run but seems pretty complicated.
I think the car has ews 3.3
I dont know what's the best way to go about it.
I was thinking about getting DME and EWS from a junk yard but I dont know if it would be just plug and play.
The person who sold me the car said that he diagnosed it and then brought it to a garage, who said it was EWS module.
I would really appreciate if you could help me with this module. I have no start/no crank condition. I tried both keys but neither work. All the cluster lights come on. I also accessed EWS and when I turn the key, a relay in it clicks.
It would be great if you could help, since theres a lot of information online and I dont want to waste too much money buying all kinds of tools.
Please let me know if you're still around

Having just fitted a 2001 M5 engine into a 1995 M5 I know ALL about EWS/DME alligning and how to get around the factory system  Unfortunately these cars are a lot easier to steal than most people think with the right parts. I'm not posting details on the board for obvious reasons but if you want to know how to run your car without a key then PM me and I can give you more details :) But I have to say that if I had an E39 M5, no way would I bypass what is after all a great security device for all but the most dedicated thieves. If someone wants your car then they will get it, regardless of what anti-theft measures you have, but the EWS eliminates all but the most determined attempts
I know this is an old thread but PLEASE HELP! lost keys about to lose my job and not enough cash to get cord and software!!

.... and not enough cash to get cord and software!!
And then you want to drive a ///M5, seriously

I do not think it is appreciated to ask how to bypass an EWS. And with the papers of your car, you can go to BMW for a replacement key.

why waste both of our time
I am not answering your question either, I just want it to be clear to the next fool who thinks he can waste our time. We don't answer questions like that here to first time posters with no history. There are so many holes in your story only a fool would help you. You have owned the car for sometime, but only signed up now? The ews is not stopping you the lack of key is. You need a key from a dealer, they can align your Ews to your new key, heck even a locksmith can if you get them to cut you a key. It is much easier to align a key than to delete the Ews.
