Hey everyone,
I've located an E34 M5 across the pond and I'm looking for feed back on how to get a third party to verify the VIN on the car, all of its panels and a general once over to make sure this is a solid ride.
Is there someone that can share their experience with me, I'm a bit skeptical on how to proceed with this buy.
Does anyone know of a service or agency that is reputable over in Holland that could perform this service?

Thanks loads for any feed back or shared experiences.

If you provide a more specific location of the vehicle in Holland, you might get lucky here and find some local eyes and ears to take a look at it for you. I did this (on a 2002 message board) with a '73 Tii I bought site unseen in TX. It helped give me a sense of comfort before buying.

I also got the name of an local independent mechanic in the seller's town (from people on the message board) and the seller was more than willing to drop it off there for an inspection. I don't think I would have bought it if the seller wasn't willing to do this.

Thank you David,
I’m waiting on a few details to confirm the car is legit and then I’ll move forward.
I have the VIN and ran CarFax on it , that all checks out.
It was a US car and he brought it over to Holland. He’s an expat.
For him to make it street legal and get plates he said it would cost him a bundle in taxes to do that.
How much taxes could it be for a 30 year old car???
So now he’ll ship it back here for a buyer that is serious ( C.O.D).
This is why I would like to find someone that will check the car out before I move forward.
Anyone from Holland reading .... please stay tuned.

Thanks,

Tom

Contact Ivo Christov, aka Ovide on MyE28.com — Home - IVO CHRISTOV BMW E28 SPECIALIST. When I was having challenges with the UK-based seller of the car I bought on BaT, I reached out to Ivo. He flew over, did an independent assessment of the car, handed over payment on my behalf and ferried the car back to his home shop where he handled all the export and paperwork for me. Incredible guy, very knowledgeable and highly trustworthy. If he did all that for me to the UK I’m sure he can offer similar in the same country.

Thank you for your story and experience.
I'll contact Ivo after this reply.
Ivo actually has a shop about 2.5 hrs away from the cars location.
I'll post an update in the near future
Where are you located - Solarphil- Sounds like you should be down in the SouthWest?

Thanks again

So the story goes thatI contacted Ivo and he jumped right in to offer assistance - Ivo recognized the add as an old add and its most likely a scam 😕
I thought the price was way too good to be true.

Any way..... thank you all for your help and tips along this little journey.
I'll keep my eyes open for another car to add to the garage😃

Sorry to hear the seller was floating a line, but glad to hear the truth won out. Glad you made contact with Ivo, if you’re looking for something from over the pond I’d say you’d be hard pressed to find a better resource. Let him know what you’re looking for and I’m sure he could find some suitable options. Whatever you find, if you find yourself in the Santa Fe / Albuquerque area let me know, there are many good roads and microbreweries to explore.
