Out of curiosity (their website seems a bit outdated), I emailed Borla to ask if they had an E39 M5 exhaust. Within a few minutes here is the info I got:

WE HAVE IT!
PART# 14942
LIST PRICE IS $1299.
HP GAIN OF 11HP AT THE WHEELS
ROUND STYLE TIPS
19LBS LIGHTER THAN STOCK

Here is a pic of their M3 tips, he said the M5's tips will be very similar.

I'm still waiting to find out if it's cat-back or resonator-back. Given the quality of their other exhaust systems and their famous 1,000,000 mile warranty, I will stongly consider this along with the Tubi and Triflo.

Awesome!!! And whats even better is that the $1299 is Borla's retail price, so that means a nice discount from a place like Summit or Jeg's....

Borla usually makes a very good quality exhaust and they have a great sound! Very cool.

NO! NO! NO! DON'T put Borla's on your M5. Their claim of a 11 hp gain is a crock of camel crap!!!! Since when can a catback exhaust system provide THAT much of an increase. If you had a Midas single exhaust system from a Ford Pinto and THEN switched to a dual exhaust, I could see that, but for the M5??? NOOOO!! Don't just look at the picture and say oooooh!!! that must be a good exhaust system.
Borla is full of it. They claimed massive HP gains for the SHO if you changed to their catback system. The only thing you would gain is more room in your wallet and only about a 4 hp gain!!! And upgraded exhaust system alone won't give you the gains you are looking for in the M5, at least none that are that noticeable and/or effective.

Geez!!! You guys are so hung up on these aftermarket exhaust systems, it's beginning to get sad. The only way to get hose gains you're looking for, particularly with this M5 is through an improved induction system, some headwork and maybe some different cam lobe numbers (look at Nowak did, then you'll understand). Kelvin got the Hamann exhaust system, and it sounded fantastic, sort of like a well tuned hotrod, but there WEREN'T any discernible power gains. If you're looking solely for sound, then get anything else.

I'm only in it for the look and sound. I like the look of the Supersprint the most, but it sounds too docile. I like the growl of the B&B but don't like the shape of the tips all too much. This Borla might be a compromise of both.

Borla's traditionally have a good rumble to them, and as the pics show they feature the round rolled edge tips that I like. I am concerned about the tip within a tip...I'm thinking maybe a rattling sound will emerge at full throttle and high RPM when the inner pipe vibrates enough to touch the outer tip.

I recieved more info. It seems the street price will be around $975. and it is a fully cat-back system (or so was claimed). The first production run will be completed in 2 weeks.
