So without eliminating the key, what purpose does the start button have other than to bother you with one more operation before the car starts doing what you want?

Obviously something you're unfamiliar with... a touch of class.

So where can I get this class of yours? Is there a course advertised on the back of a matchbook I missed?

Back to the topic, what does the start button do in the E60? The 7-series version of this did nothing other than to make the key fatter and require an extra step in the start of the car. It might make sense with a keyless ignition, but not without it.
