S50B32 VS P54B32
What's your favorite?

QUICK NOTE: Did you know that BMW works team PTG in late 2006 was asked by corporate to build a prototype TURBO S54/P54B32 race engine for 2007? At only 5 psi what do you think the turbo in-line six cylinder engine produced?

Engines shown

Well, the first E36 shows an S50B30 cam carrier and its vanos unit presumably active, but I'm to lazy to zoom in and see if they used a B30 or B32 set of TB, which presumably would match to the proper head. Bottom end could have been 3.0, 3.2, or stroked to 3.4 depending on series and age etc...

The E46 car shows a locked cam S54 engine of some kind, not sure how to tell if its a P54 per say.

The last distant view shows an engine similar to the first, at least S50B30 valve cover, vanos etc......

Did PTG "EVER" run a dual vanos S50B32 head in their race program? All the photos of PTG race cars from back in the day seem to show single vanos units or locked cam S50 engines. However, on the Moorspeed rebuilding of the E46 PTG M3, they show a dual vanos S50B32 style vanos unit, with (very oddly) the extra intake cam sensor added, ala B30 style in a location usually blocked off for the B32 vanos units..... Make me think they dropped in a 3.2, didn't think anyone would notice, locked the exhaust cam, and used the original PTG single vanos active harness......

Do you have some insight?
