Anybody recommend any Radar Det. Systems? The last i heard was great and probably the best was the valentine one. I cant see that still being on top since 1999 when I last really checked into these things. I just want something to give me heads up on cops ahead. or behind. And I remember reading on here around last year about a radar/jammer in one. This is all new to me so if anybody has info about a good radar just let me know so i have it in time when the car gets here in Oct. Thanks

Valentine One, without a doubt. Made down the street here in Cincinnati. The company was started by the same engineer that developed the first Escort radar detector.

I have had a V1 for 2 years and no tickets (knock on wood). I drive between 80-90mph on highways in SouthEast, and it has given me plenty of warning and kept me out of trouble. Laser is used by even the County law enforcement here, so Lidatek will be my next move when the M5 arrives. V1 is also nice because you can have it updated regularly by the manufacturer.

Maybe not: but Lidatek have been tested numerous times (10+) by m5board.com members in their M5s. You cannot say that about the Blinder. Also Lidatek are sponsors ;)

Someone please tell me why/how the Lidatek is better than the Blinder M40, which seems to get the best reviews.

Laser jammers are not illegal in most states and not in mine (Texas). Radar jammers are illegal everywhere because the RF spectrum is controlled by the FCC.

Right, Laser jammers are only illegal in CA and a few other states. You can check on the Lidatek site. Radar jammers are illegal in most states.

Yeah--my problem is I live in CA! Here's info from their site:

The LE-30 is legal in every state except California, Utah, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Virginia, Nebraska, and Washington, D.C.

Laser Jammers are/ or will be/ illegal in NY. Pataki just signed it into law. V1 is the best. If you want some really excellent integration, give Matt or Chris a call over at AI Design:

They do excellent work.

Laser/Radar Detectors? Don't Detectors just tell you that you're about to be pulled over? As for Jammers, do the Laser Jammers actually work?

Since I've had my detector, V1, I've always had enough time to slow down and avoid a ticket, and that's been about 12 years. Saved it's price 10 times over and my license as well. Laser, timed speed over distance, thats another story.

Detectors:

Radar detectors work and are legal almost everywhere. You will still be had with a highly disciplined use of instant-on radar, but a good radar detector like the V1 will save you far more often than it fails you.

Laser detectors are not very useful. When they actually detect laser, it's usually way too late; you've just been painted. The best location to detect radar is up high, but laser is a fairly tight beam that will often miss a detector mounted up near the visors, and that position also gets it behind the strongest window tint.

Jammers:

Most radar jammers don't work and are absolutely illegal everywhere with very stiff fines. The FCC regulates the RF spectrum and prohibits the radar frequency transmissions required to jam radar.

The best laser jammers appear to be very effective. They have sensors and transponders around a car's target zones (license plates and headlights). The sensors detect police laser and the transponders respond with strong IR emissions that overwhelm the laser reflection causing the gun to fail to read the speed. They are legal in most states, but not all.

Actually for us down-under, I believe it'd illegal to have a radar-detector *in the car*, even if it is off in most eastern states. How about Radar Detector Detectors as well? I've heard plenty of rumours/rumbles about that...

The regulatory apparachiks are getting out of control down under. It seems that anything used to protect yourself is being made illegal such as guns and radar detectors.

The rise of the nanny state.... you can't use a cell phone to get directions but you can have a stereo blasting or kids screaming... or be fuddling with the in car control system...which is the bigger distraction?
