First of all, I have put 36k miles in the last 2-1/2 years, and this is NOT my daily driver.

Needless to say, I love driving it anytime I can.

This past weekend, it reached 100,000 miles, and while it still feels great, I need to start worrying about issues that can get me stranded.

10k ago, I already got stranded from a failed fuel pump
I just got brand new suspension components and struts last summer
Clutch is also brand new

I will be getting new fluids (brake, diff, purple royal transmission).

I'm thinking about getting water pump and thermostat since my car runs cool - so I'll get coolant done then.

Anything else I need to worry that has happened to you?

I would replace all coolant hoses in the front and rear of the motor while you are doing the water pump, coolant chg etc.

Its difficult to say for sure you will have to wait and see, I know thats not much help but to give you an example, BMW changed the belts and a day later my air con compressor packed in.

If you have done all the routine stuff, and it sounds as if you have, you may look at brakes, etc..I've just past 100K, and had to do a wheel brg, MAFS, plugs and a CPS in the last 3 months..The car runs top notch..best wishes with it

At 100k, I would change out the radiator. 90k seems to be average useful life. YMMV.

cooling system overhaul is a good idea. (hoses, water pump, thermostat, radiator/expansion tank)

You may also want to take a close look at the suspension bushings and ball joints.

there are also those who would say to change out the crankshaft to rod bearings, but that requires a significant amount of effort.

MAFs, depending on what kind of reading you get in Test 6 on the OBD. CPS might be something to look out for too.

I've replaced every nut and bolt on my car EXCEPT the radiator- car has 161,000 miles - Imho, just change the coolant and hoses.

has anyone actually seen an e39 m5 rad failure like we'd see all over the boards with 540's? I can't remember reading about one. I put a thermostat and water pump in at 75k prophylactically when my car was at the dealer a couple years ago to fix an oil leak, figured they were in there, would pay for the part. Of course the tech didn't want to do the job correctly and replace the seal in the thermostat housing, which failed this last summer, causing cool running conditions so that was revisited. I think hoses on a modern car are ok for 150k, i replaced all of the hoses on my e34, which has about 148k on it now, the cooling hoses were actually still in quite good condition, the vacuum hoses were trashed, they, and the crankcase vent hoses crumbled in my hands.

The big debate at 100k is do we replace the rod bearings, like the e34 3.8L guys do. If i had a local shop that i trusted who would do this job reasonably, i would do it, but have yet to find a shop, other than dinan, to tackle something like this.
