Finally acquired my M5. Some of you may have seen it on ebay/craigslist. It needs some TLC, but i drove it, had it inspected, and decided I would make it pretty again. Its a 2000 LMB/Black with ACS parts. I'll be getting rid of the ACS mufflers and other things so look for them in the classifieds. Will also be looking for some upgrade and replacement parts and soon it'll go to the shop as part of its rehabilitation. Ill update with pics soon and try to make a build thread out of it, but itll be a slow process since I have little time to fiddle around these days.

Nice -- just bought a LMB/Black 2002 myself. Interesting - your car must have been just after BMW discontinued Avus, and began LMB.

Like others have said, let's see the pics!

Cameraphone pic attached! Car has ACS front splitters, rear diffuser, trunk spoiler and mufflers. I'll be getting rid of all that except the front splitter and going with a black molding matched stock rear diffuser hopefully. So 10 years old, only about 25k miles put in the last 6-7 years. What kinds of maintenance would you guys perform? Notables from my PPI: som broken underbody plastic covers, power steering hose seepage, front struts need re-aligning, rear ball-joints need replacing soon, and some bent wheels. Previous owner stated nothing notable ever came up and just performed routine oil changes etc. Things i've noticed: when cold the car has some acceleration hesitation/jerkiness between 2-3k rpm in 2-3rd gear, power delivery doesnt seem so smooth, pulls strong in higher rpm and highers gears. Just doesnt have that overall strong engine smoothness, but i dont notice any weird noises or sounds from the engine. One thing i do notice is that the engine idle reminds me of a diesel engine.

Also since I'm looking to update the head/tail lights but trying to stay cost effective, is there a particular aftermarket replacement that is highly recommended on the board?

I believe it might be an Avus Blue because it's a MY2000.

Oh yea? That would be great if it was avus blue! So what do you guys think about some of my car issues and maintenance I should look into? I read about the engine jerkiness as somewhat of a common issue.

Yes, far more likely its Avus, which is an awesome color as well.

Not sure exactly what you mean by jerkiness when cold, but you need to drive these cars carefully before they warm up. Some of what you describe could be normal.

I concur, very nice car, good color, and cold performance issues very likely "normal" - "they all do that", etc.

Bummer on the CEL. Get a Peake reader if you haven't already.

Maintenance - how many miles total on the beast? I'd probably replace all of the fluids (tranny, rear end, brakes, power steering, coolant) at a minimum, everything else (plugs, filters) dependent on mileage and when last changed, if ever.

Congrats!

Regarding previous maintenance, I think it was primarily routine, i dont think the spark plugs/filters were done. Car stands at 47k miles, I'm mulling over whether to just get the oil changed, or to clean the MAFs, change all fluids, plugs and filters. Maybe see if the DME needs an update. I feel like it doesnt have the raw grunt I was expecting, but also I havent driven another M5 to compare. I was set on spending most of my revamp budget on upgrades and fixing exterior things, but now I may reconsider and split it between some more maintenance stuff.

Updating with pics:

Last two pictures are something i just noticed, the car has clean carfax/autocheck and I got a PPI....but the rear passenger door color doesnt match up with the rear panel, very odd, wonder if its a paint issue or something to do with the clearcoat?
