As some of you may remember, my last trip to the track was a quest for 11's. I was fortunate enough to squeak out an 11.95 with drag radials on the stock clutch. Yesterday I was back for the record, which is held by Kelster's S3 at 11.79. I won't lie, I wanted it. Even if it's just for a short time until someone with some serious power makes it to the strip.

I have since upgraded to the Brecus stage 4 Feramic disc and really put it through the paces yesterday. It performed flawlessly and took everthing I threw at it in a dozen or so passes. Thanks, AAron! Only other changes since the last trip to the track was a fog light delete to get more air to filter that is located in front of the right side wheel. Oh, and also the addition of the DSSR to the UUC shift that I thought was stock.

Air temps yesterday ranged from low 40's to low 50's with a favorable DA. Unfortunately yours truly was not as favorable and I botched many passes which I will blame on the nasty head cold, total lack of sleep the night before and just overall feeling like butt. I missed many a shift including one on my best 60' foot of the day. :( You can clearly hear Matt's disappoinment while shoot the vid of this pass. Classic! And although the new clutch bites hard, take up is more abrupt and takes a little getting used to. At the end of the day I was finally getting the hang of it but my car had enough and we called it a day. A bit of a cross/head wind probably kept my trap speeds down a bit.

In regards to lauching, there is a fine line between getting away clean and being overly aggresive and triggering massive wheel hop. Spinning was not an issue with the DR's lowered to 18 psi and the awesome track prep at MIR. A huge thanks to Ray for the loan of the DR's on those sexy Dinan wheels.

Enough with the excuses and onto the good stuff. Keep in mind, my Beast is stock performance-wise with the exception of the ESS kit.

Some vBox numbers-

0-60 3.6
0-100 8.6

IMO, Not bad for a nearly two ton grocery getter!

Best launch with blown 1-2 shift (one of many this day....way off my game) Note Matt's response. :crying2:

Sweet !! How much boost are you seeing ?
Thanks! It's hard to say really. Some runs showed over 9 psi, but I think that spike occurred during my burnout. I think I'm seeing around 8 on the track.

You just keep getting better Adam !!

Well done man !
I appreciate that, Kumuran. You know first hand that it's not as easy as it looks. Stickies do make it more fun, but create a whole new set of challenges. Frankly, my sketchy driving was the main issue yesterday. Head cold + no sleep = diminished motor skills. :confused3

I have to throw this vid in of this insanely fast Viper. I've seen him run many times and still can't comprehend. He let off way early AND got on the brakes and still ran 7.77! The vid doesn't do it justice.

Very nice :)

What were your 60' times?

A 118 trap speed is solid.
Best 60' was 1.70. I was really hoping for 1.6's. Launching on boost with the 3.45 diff is complicated for me. I also thought my traps would have been above 120 but the 10-15 mph headwind prevented that.

Your launching looks spot on,the car gets off the line very well, well done.

You said your car was stock except ESS kit but in your sig it says Dinan diff, is this a different ratio to a standard M5 diff to give better acceleration ?

Simon.
I do have the Dinan 3.45 diff but that can't be considered a power enhancement. In reality, it's probably making the launch more difficult for me. It's quite the handful out of the hole and with the grabbier clutch, getting away cleanly proved challenging yesterday. I will be back!

Great numbers!!! And beautiful vehicle. A little off topic but what kind and size wheels do you have? They really set the car apart.
The wheels are Fikse Profil 5s, 18" x 10" rear and 18" x 9" front. Soon the Beast will be lowered on GC coilovers and I think this will really set these wheels off.

Thanks to all for your remarks!

so adam do you think your stock diff might actually be better for the strip?
Better? Probably not. Easier to drive? Probably.....

thats what i'm wondering, could you cut a chunk off the 60ft times w the stock diff? Would it make up the difference you would be losing on the big end?

all questions I doubt we'll get answered
As much as I enjoy the 3.45's around town, I don't think I'll be going back to stock anytime soon. I like to call it "condensed fun" with the shorter gearing.

I think I'm better off with the current gearing as I'm going through the traps above 6500 rpms in 4th gear. If I could nail the launch more consistently, like I was at the end of the day, I can lop off another .10 -.20. Beyond that I would just need more power. This is in the works as well.

How soon? This I am really excited to see!!
Very soon, Charlie! Coils are in hand thanks to the generous hook up from Raza.

Now I just need to get my car to make some more noise going down the track. The car is just too quiet. Some Dinan cans might really do the trick!:haha2::blink:

Awesome vids Adam, looks like alot of fun!
Thanks Brian, you can thank Sniz for those. He was tireless behind the cameras on Friday. A very tough assignment.

I need to come over in the next couple of weeks. Trade some lift time for some GC install hands?
Deal!

Nice work Adam! Just leave something left on the DRs for Timmayfest...:hihi: I was looking at the new Nitto DRs and thinking about upgrading. Your thoughts?
No worries, Ray. Plenty of life left in the Nitto's. With a little heat, they stick surprisingly well. I had to drop the pressure down to 18 to get the wheel hop under control. As Matt can attest, I was unable to spin them off the line. They just hooked. Many thanks for letting me look after them for you.

I have heard mixed reviews on the 555R's but they seem to work well on the E39. I can't speak of the new Nitto's as I haven't seen or heard about them.

Now that you have starting from a standing stop mastered, how about moving up to road racing?

Once these go on, I will be equipped to do that. :haha2:

Adam,

The record is only $1k from reach! Get the HFS6 kit and a tank. Even if you run 50/50 with no S/C pre-cooler jet will be enough added HP to get you a few more tenths, an easy 50HP.

I'm glad to hear about the Brecus clutch as I have been waiting for some tried and tested high rev shift reviews. I've been concerned with whether it would hold up to quickshifts. Back in the day when I dragged, we used to powershift but I know the guibo and tranny in the M% wouldn't appreciate that abuse.

I guess I'll need to contact Brecus and do another independant FI review to back up your findings mmmmmm
The record was only a missed shift away on my 1.70 60' launch! :crying2: The Aquamist is one of my next mods but I may have another trick up my sleeve for IAT cooling that doesn't involve any spray. ;) Or perhaps both!

The Brecus clutch is definitely up to the task. I really rung it out good that day and it never felt anything but right. On most passes I powershifted the 3-4 but just couldn't bring my self to attempt this on the first two upshifts....yet.

Adam lets do it! I'm sure Bonnie will enjoy a ride along there ;)
I'll do it if you will! :grinyes: We have to get your car on a track at some point and it was built for a road course.

April 13th, Summit Point, WV. You should go (it's tax deductable), i'll be there shooting photos and doing a few laps.

I already called Adam out but he has previous plans, or so the excuses go :biggrinbounce:
With the wife having a dental implant procedure that morning, an afternoon ride along might be just what she needs to shake off the cobwebs from the anesthesia. I'll mention the tax benefits too.

Adam, sorry I missed this thread till now. What exhaust are you running on it? I owe you measurements for the tips of the Dinans, the car is in the shop right now getting new purty shoes on. Once I get her home tomorrow or Thursday, Ill get them to you.

Love the videos and OMG love the sound of that blow off.

Wicked car bro.
Thanks, Chris! My current exhaust is the B+B Triflo with the 3 1/2" tips that look badass. Aesthetically they are awesome but just lack the explosive sound that a supercharged car should have. Nice and rumbly at idle and around town but they get pretty quiet when I want them not to be....like at 7000 rpms on full boost!

The Dinan cans that I'm getting for a very generous price are in need of some love. The cans and tips have a decent layer of rust and that won't fly. I'm thinking of painting the cans matte black and having Tim fashion some replacement tips to dress things up a bit.

BTW, how do you like your Dinan cans? And what's this about new shoes??
