I am interested in what they meant by beat Ferrari F430, surely they don't mean the performance (a recent article on motortrend showed 0 to 60mph of 3.8sec., sub 12 sec. in 1/4 mile if I remember correctly, the one about vs. Ford GT). If they're talking about the overall package, then I don't know if I would buy it since this two car so drmatically different.

P.S. but I would still like to read the article, of course :D

that's like comparing an apple with a orange......
But i think overall the BMW is best, a bit less performance, but more space, better fuel efficiency less depreciation, more comfy etc etc.

Less depreciation? Not here in the USA. Ferraris will trade above MSRP for years to come. I think the M5 represents a very good value.

both cars are totally in different class. simply comparing them is absolutely stupid. if i were given a choice, i would choose both. i can drive F430 on the weekends and drive M5 for everyday use..lets say going to work.

plus..im a ferrari & bmw fan :D

p.s. - since M5 kicked all saloon's ***, i hope M5 will be ready to face the upcoming Audi RS6.

Afraid on performance wise we going to get kicked  . If it’s going to be V10 Bi-turbo boy it going to fly away especially with 4wd from stand still

well, obviously they want to make it faster than the E60 M5.
If the rumours are true, with other words : Bi-turbo gallardo V10 in the Audi Rs6 i bet it will get at least more than 550 BHP, but the 4wd consumes more power than a RWD. As the gallardo weighs 1430Kg, and the old RS6 was 1840Kg i really think they need a lot of extra power from that engine to keep similar performance.

I dont think the new RS6 will get bi-turbo, they already abandoned it in new S4 and new RS4.
Its wierd if RS6 is the only top audi with bi-turbo and other models without. so no, the new Rs6 wont get a bi-turbo.

bmw beats ferrari for
speed
handling
value
not for noise

Article basically says a ferrri 430 is unablle to open a gap on an m5 on any road, and on a motorway will lose out.

m5 ..0-60 4.6,0-100 9.8,0-150 21.0
430..0-60 4.4,0-100 9,4,0-150 21.5

they say the ferrari is more special, but argue that a car costing £130,000 should be able to walk away form a saloon costing £63000,and thatit isn't able to do that.

Just some thoughts

How about the M6 then? Its supposed to be a tad faster than the M5!

How about handling and feel?

There is such a thing as diminishing returns. There are people who would say they would get a Subaru WRX or Mitsubishi Evo and save all that money from a M car.

Like I said the M delivers a great mix of value (when compared to the super cars it can hang with) and comfort and luxury. But I think if I were lucky enough to drive both the M5 and F430 I would expect the F430 would be a more special experience. That's what you pay for. Is it worth it? Entirely subjective. Btw- Road & Track said the F430 does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds....
