The scorepoints the BMW M5 Touring lost the most to the Audi RS6 Avant in categories Fuelconsumption / Envorviroment with 17 p (of 20) vs 14 for the M5.

Vs the Merces E63 AMG the M5 lost scores mostly on Luggage space / versatility where the AMG scored 20 (out of 20) and the M5 scored 14. The E63 probably got really gih there also thansk to it's 55 liter larger trunks space (2030 liters for the E63). The M5 also lost many points on visibility (18 vs 15 out of a 20 max) and also Warranty (13 vs 9 out of 20).

For everyday the Mercedes E63 AMG won the test. The fastest aroudn the track was the Audi RS6. The BMW M5 Touring was a fascinating ride, a drivers machine. But in everyday driving the SMG auto gearboxfeature was cumbersome in auto mode.

lol since when they charge you 1€ for reading some stuff on their page?

I think the E63 is more comfortable and that's why also the bad lap time.
Very small difference between RS6 and M5...

Thanks for the Post

Outstanding. Thanks for posting the video link. Love to listen to the German commentary. Brings back great memories of living there.

Thanks for that and congratulations to the RS6.

I am happy to see it also the fastest car not only in a straight line, but also on the race track. Thanks Audi for not building a straight rocket machine, like a few others. ;)

A fact that might surprise a few people around here, but it was nice to get it on paper :)

M5 was tested with Launch Control ( P500sport,S6,DSC off) ? or not? Who knows?
I can't tell but it would surprise me if they did not use the LC.

If you're looking for excuses it is probably the wrong alley.
14,7 seconds is not a bad time for the Touring, not at all.

The M5 sedan got 0-200 km/h in 14.4 secs in sport auto 09/2006 14,5 secs and ams 16/2006.

There are much better times then the mid 14's you posted for the sedan.

I agree that 14,7 is not a bad time for the touring, but its not a great time either. I wont even comment on the lousy 4.9 sec to 100... The new RS6 only matched the performance of the M5 with a 3 years delay and a higher price tag. Not enough for me.

580hp AWD with a 4.4 sec to 60? An M3/RS4 could do that, unfortunately.

I am very well aware of that.

But this is a test with Avant / Touring, and it was just to show that the sedan doesn't always perform high 13s.
So I think it was a good time for the M5T.

And before you compare the M3/RS4/C55 etc. you might want to include weight as a factor ;)

Erik....I might be drawing completely the wrong conclusion here but I get the distinct impression you're a bit pro-Audi? hmmm

I have included = 580hp AWD with a 4.4 sec to 60? Obviously something is wrong = TOO HEAVY

German AMS

0-100km/h: 4.4s
0-200km/h:15.2s

Measured weight: 2148kg (57.9% front, 42.1% rear)
Max: 280km/h

Notice a 0-100 in 4.4sec but a 0-200 in 15.2 sec... that Quattro is sucking a lot of power as speed increases... As i said before: Audi only matched M5's straight line performance with 80 extra Bhp and quite a few lb/ft of tq more... :sad1:

No excuses, but m5 is the fastest 100-200kmh

14,7-4.9 = 9.8

rs6 14,4-4.4 = 10 secs

i dont care about the 0-100kmh figures, how often you do this full throttle launches.... but 100-200 kmh is on our motorwas mutch more the daily use.

and what would happen about 200 kmh, by by rs6

Autocar UK on RS6

http://www.autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/RoadTestsHistory/Audi-A6-5.0-V10-RS6/232953/

So, it did 0-100mph in 9.9 secs which is slower than the 9.8secs from the M5 sedan they tested. After 100mph, we all know the result with 7-gears and RWD but this was a surprise. To be fair, this is sedan vs touring but that's the only official data they have.

Also, they gave it 4-stars. A good mark from Autocar but our sedan earned a very rare 5-star review so to hell with Chris Harris and his strange comparo test of the two tourings a while back.
