I'm not the winning bidder of this auction but I was wondering if these wheels were genuine OEM? I emailed the seller and he said the part numbers on the wheels were 2 228 960 in rear and 2 228 950 in front.

However, it's hard to tell by pictures and the item description states 18x10 as the size for the rear. Aren't rear wheels sizes for OEM 18x9.5? TIA.

Hmmm...doesnt look like a typical BMW part number...not enough digits.

Stock rears are 9.5. He just might not be an enthusiast like the rest of the board.

R
36 11 2 228 950
36 11 2 228 960

Full part numbers. Common to leave off the first two pairs since they are always the same for the part (generally wheels are 36.11....)

I'd guess these are original, OE wheels. They don't look repainted.

Thats a tad high for wheels with curb rash. I paid 350&375 for brand new, never mounted rears.
to my knowledge the original e39 wheels were never knocked off, so it seems probable that they are just what they are supposed to be.

??

Ebay has hundreds of cheap E39 M5 copies for sale at any moment.

An OE (Original Equipment) BMW M5 wheel is a rarity on ebay.
The OEM wheels have the letters "CT FX PU" stamped in the hub of the wheels, No copys i have seen have this marking.

Well there you go. The extent of my knowledge isn't much help! I've never seen a knockoff of that wheel.
Be careful when purchasing wheels on ebay! I've bought "OEM" wheels from ebay years ago for my old 540. Bad experience, they were OEM but after riding on them for a few months the clearcoat and finish started peeling off. I had them checked by my mechanic and he said the wheels were OEM but were bent wheels, (probably from a wrecked 540), they were repaired and re-finished. I gave the seller from ebay "negative" feedback, which did absolutely nothing, needless to say learn from my past experience.

Good Luck!
Thanks for the insight everyone!
