As I am on the look out for a touring , any info would be useful.
From Ad.
" It has quite a bit of history with the vehicle, dating back to around 2002, covering all aspects of maintenance, mostly with main dealers and specialists like Bexley Motor Works. Unfortunately the previous <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1>:place w:st="on">UK</st1>:place></st1:country-region> and German history is missing. "

"This particular example is not fitted with the Nuerburgring suspension, which in my eyes is not so much of a bad thing due to the fact of the cost to put the Nuerburgring system right when it does go wrong, I have known of bills running into thousands to rectify these suspension issues."

Sorry , newbe question here , isn't the 'ring suspension bit just a switch for the EDC ? is the seller confused in thinking its the EDC itself ?

Hi MartinD

This is the car that Hertfordshire1, Jon Baker and myself saw at the Ring in July 2006.

The car was not in great condition as the owners at the time had not replaced the front dampers with M5 dampers but had put on 525 dampers.

I suggest that you inspect the car before bidding as you should with all purchases.

I am sure when Jon and Steve( Hertfordshire1) see this they can confirm this as one of them spoke to the guys driving the car.

I'm glad this wasn't around when I was searching as it fits most of my criteria - alcantara, touring, no sunroof, manual seats, etc. (but no headlight washers, which would be a requirement if I was to fit the HID lights).

Wonder if they'll swap ;)

Yeah this looks like thesame car to me. I thought this car was up for sale while ago (after we saw it at the ring) so its current owner may not be who we saw.

I can confirm the story about the shocks....

Have a good look over would be my advice.

Sold to the victim who bought Davids E28 M5 ! He is obviously feeling lucky !
He is bloody lucky Pete ....... do you think he's paid too much for an E34 M5 Touring then ?

Even if he puts new EDC on all round , he's had a result at that price !

What do you mean by victim ?

Err, that's more than I paid for mine.............

But as we (you) all know - these cars can't be kept on too little a budget.....

Just MHO

Do you think that you paid too much for yours then Sharkfan ?

Right time , right place springs to mind !

As you correctly state , these cars cannot be kept on too little a budget , but look after them and you will be rewarded .

Should we all keep talking them down , they will become affordable to the ' want a quick car for peanuts ' brigade , who will rag them to death with the minimum of maintenance ......

The buyer of the Touring discussed in this thread may well be saving her from an untimely death , as he is certainly enthusiastic about M Power .

Had I not have been reading bedtime books to children , I may well have bought that Touring myself !

No, but I've seen a couple in Germany which were very nice - one of which belonged to a good mate. He still has it. It is a 1995 six speed car in Daytona Violet.
The M5 is a car where it's not worth buying a nail, which is what this purple thing sounds like. I've always had a golden rule of when buying a car like this, buy the best example going and if you can only afford a banger, don't bother.

I've been here and posted here before. I wasn't aware having an opinion was regarded as 'making an entrance'...? :)

No i don't consider myself a victim, far from it i love my e28 and i will be spending a few quid on it to bring to the next level. As for the touring i took a punt and i will spend a few pounds on it and enjoy,so next time you call someone a victim,Pete ,explain yourself!!!!

Maybe a sense of humour would be a starting point....in motor trade parlance, 'victim' means buyer as does 'Billy' (Billy Bunter - Punter).

Iirc Pete had a perfect example for sale for £6500. So I'm kinda wondering how a well thrashed example with 525i suspension makes sense?
Still - we need someone to rescue the less brilliant examples so that they stick around. It's not my cup of tea but each to their own!

Don't lose heart with this site Dave - I think you've just been unfortunate enough to disturb some of the more negative folk who lurk on here and seem to take it personally when people are willing to take risks that are beyond them.

I was similarly new to the site and bought a fairly well discussed and somewhat derided M5 Touring a little while ago (and looking back through the thread - by the same (banned) person ouich)

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=87548

Thankfully I avoided the negative sods and found some good sound advice from the more learned and positive influences on here - and a year of trouble-free motoring on I'm as pleased as punch with my 'bargain' touring.

As for folk thinking there are 'near-perfect' examples out there for 6.5k, read the thread (linked above) and the post on the 12th Jan 2007 for a list of things that were wrong with a 'near-perfect' example........:eek:oohhh:

Good luck to you with your Touring - they are fantastic and rare cars and do need enthusiastic and positive buyers like us to take the less well maintained cars and slowly bring them back up to scratch.

If you need a prod toward the postive influences on this forum drop me a PM and I'll give you a quick list of the many good folk on here who've all been upbeat and enthusiastic about nearly all M5's.

All the best  and congratulations on your purchase :biggrinbounce:
