Any good reasons to avoid Pirelli PZero?

I need new tires. My track days are over for a while; and right now I care most about good thread life and price - in other words the S03 or PilotSports are going to be overkill for the kind of driving I foresee in the next couple of years.

I have been told that Pirelli PZeros have good thread life and they are considerably cheaper than the other options. Any reasons to stay away from Pirellis other than missing on the superior traction of the super-high-performance tires?

Anyone out there with Pirellis?

Thanks a bunch.

I am running Pirelli PZero Rosso and they great tires for daily driving. I think pirelli has gotten bad reputation because of their non Zero line. I know their supersports sucks. they were like hockey pucks. But the PZero are pretty competitive performance tires.

The Pirelli PZero's are definetly nothing to laught at. They come stock on the Porsche 996TT and 360 Modena and I have heard they are good tires. From what I've heard, they don't have the grip and traction of the Pilot Sport line, SO3's, etc., but good max performance tires none the less. Do you know for a fact that their tread life is any better than other max performance tires? If I were you, I would buy S03's, they are relativly cheap and I bet you could get atleast 20,000 miles on them if you don't drive aggressivly.

The Pirelli P Zero Nero won the last Auto Motor & Sport tyre-test this spring...

Test size was 225/45 17 mounted on a BMW 325i

I have a V70R with PZero Rosso tires (235/45-17), and I've had nothing but good experiences with them so far. They are clearly a very high performance summer tire, excellent absolute limits with a reasonable slip angle versus traction curve near there limits (i.e. they are very controllable near the limit).

Although my experiences have been great, there are plenty of other 2004 V70R owners who have had issues with out of round tires. One owner I know of had a second set delivered where only 1 of the 4 was able to be used, so he gave up and made the dealer buy him PS2's after weeks of hassle with a brand new car. The other complaint has been that the sidewalls are more prone to bubbling with pothole hits than other tires. I can at least relate that on my 855R we bubbled two of the original PZero tires with pothole hits that were not dramatic, but that was a few years back now.

I've had Dunlops, Pirelli P Zeroes and Michelin Sports on my Beast. Of the three, the Michelin are definately the best. I found the Pirelli's were rock hard and didn't last as long as the Michelins. The Dunlops were the worst of the bunch.

had two sets of P_Tires on the Porsche - they are certainly good tires. I did bubble the tread on one set when I got them past 240 degrees on the track - but I kept the second set below 230 and had no problems. I don't think they wear any longer than other performance tires.

I've had several different brands on the M5 - and I'm due for a new set. I just ordered Michelins - it will be the second set of those. They are by far the best I've had on the M5.

Simple, Michelin Pilot Sport and Goodyear GSD3 are much better tyres...

They both provide excellent grip, with low noise levels in both wet and dry driving conditions - as we encounter in everyday road driving.

Pirelli P-Zero's could be classed as semi-budget tyres - I was looking at the same tyres two weeks ago because KWIK-FIT in UK have excellent prices/offers for them... but I went with Goodyear GSD3's because, I know some highly respected members on this forum have them, and if they are happy they must be good.

Since having them on, I am VERY pleased with them. I went from Michelins to Goodyears, simply because they are a very well priced tyre.

The P-Zeros are cheaper... why? You get what you pay for...

Heres the thread I posted...

agitator,

I think the overall feeling and opinion from board members is, the Pirelli's won't last much longer than the other leading brands and don't perform as well. Like I said before, if your worried about pricing jump at a set of Bridgestone S03's. They are highly regarded and proven to be good tires, although not quite to the level of Pilot Sports.
