One of my angel eye side light bulbs went today, leaving the indicator on permenantly. (which I thought was rather strange??)

I got the holder out ok & unplugged it, but it looks like the bulb is captive and I'll have to buy a whole unit from BMW, rather than a 50p bulb. Can anyone confirm if this is true?! (The money grabbing [email protected]***ds!)

(PS - it's definitely a dead bulb rather than anything more serious as swapping the units over caused the fault to swap sides too.)

Good excuse to swap in something like Umnitza Predator Chromiums or AngeliBrights! These are a bit pricey (esp. the AngeliBrights), but what with the exchange rate and all, buying these from the U.S. is almost like getting them 1/2 price (though I don't know what happens with customs, etc.).

I just had the same problem. You have to buy the whole unit, which here in the states costs about $25.
The bulb socket appears to be made of two plastic pieces that are plastic welded together. What happened to mine is the plastic weld started to fail, giving intermittent failure. I found that wiggling the body caused the light to come on. The solution? (at least temporary until I could get a new bulb and socket) was to shove a cotter pin in the space between the two parts of the socket to force the connector side of the socket over to the side that made the bulb stay on. Worked great. A bit ghetto though. :haha:

NO NO NO!

You actually have nothing wrong here. I have dealt with the same issue many times. What you have is a loose wire connection into the socket to the angel eye. If you move the wires around close to the back of the socket, you will see the angle eye come on and the turn indicator go out.

The wiring is the issue and not the angle eye. I would imagine you also have a message showing up that there is a side marker failure. Play with the wires until this goes away and secure the wires into a position that keeps it from occurring again. Easy and cheap fix.

German wiring.:3: I had all sorts of trouble with wiring in my Audi and my mom has had the same in her A4. If these cars have one big short fall it's wiring.

the plastic housing can come apart, you see two melted plastic tabs break one and the piece will come out (pull out). the bulb can come out without breaking the tabs as well, you just have to push in and turn, need very small fingers or use a needle nose pliers and a cover the bulb with a piece of cloth don't apply too much pressure. this is the way it was on my hella OEM euro version headlights...

Cheers for all the replies guys. The bulb was gone - you could see the filament had disintegrated. I bought the new bulb complete with holder from BMW Battersea for the not inconsiderable sum of £12! (for a tiny bulb that's an outrage). Angel Eyes back to normal.

Mark - I did get a 'Check Parking Light' message, yes.

Anyone know why the orange indicator lamp comes on (solid, not flashing) when the side light bulb goes?

Not sure exactly what causes the turn indicator to light constantly. It is not on full brightness when it stays on. Prehaps the lack of resistance with the bulb missing, this would also explain the warning message.

The turn signal bulb is a dual filament bulb. The car is lighting the low power filament, which would be the running light, or parking light in a car without Angel Eyes. If is lighting even when the other running lights are not on, I have no idea why it is doing that.

UK Law states there has to be (when the lights of the car are on) two bulbs illuminated. Therefore - when a bulb (headlight or sidelight) blows the indicator will illuminate.

Back in the days of budget CCFL angel eyes, the cars always thought bulbs had blown and illuminated both indicators. People used to put resistors in the bulb circuits to fool the car into thinking a bulb was there.

Is the picture of the Angel i-Bright the blue or the 6000k white? I'm looking into getting some. TIA.
The ones in that pictures are HID White, I would say the photography he used makes them look a little more blue than normal.

Check out the AMBER color we have. Its been extremely popular lately, looks like OEM, but much brighter!

Thanks for the thought but if I'm honest I prefer the orange look of the standard units :M5eyes: . It's more demonic and menacing in people's mirrors......:7:
Frankly, the original bulb can be sprayed a light shade of orange, very light, and you'll get this effect.

Apologies for the bump. Found this thread through searching for a guide to simply replace the "Angel Eyes" Lamps (not upgrade the entire unit) that had apparently gone faulty on the driver's side of the beast ("Check Parking Lights" indication and side indicator ON in place of the Angel Eyes)

Went and jiggled the wires around the back, dunno what I was doing even. Angel Eyes now back operational.
