I already have Android on my M5 thanks to a cell phone holder!

Maybe when Google gets their head out of their *** and figures out wtf they are doing with android, have a stable SDK that can actually run on multiple platforms without ten versions floating around, then I'd consider using it for a carputer or tablet or smartphone. Until then, I'll pass.

I just recently picked up the Google Nexus S to replace my iPhone 3GS. I personally dislike Apple products in general due to its Aura of Elitism but I have to say I was not that impressed with the Nexus S in terms of web browsing speed, application management, overall polish/feel...

The only definite plus that the Nexus S has over the iPhone was that it comes with an excellent FREE Navigation application from Google/Maps. This app makes the MK4 pointless.

Still have to play around with it for a few more days to decide if I want to return it or not.

rooting the phones with the android OS will net you speed and versatility and allow you to eliminate all the bloatware - my guess is that you'll be more pleased.

I personally think that Android would be great in the car. There are just so many tablets out there that there has got to be *some* form factor and feature set that matches the need of an in-car setup. I'm down for experimenting... anyone have an Android tablet in their beast?

I dislike apple products too, but only because they're for generally naive users who dont really demand much in terms of performance from their devices. Android is the future.

i love apple products for many reasons.

however they are often bought by non-power users who buy the image and 'gucci' factor.

the android o/s is miles ahead of ios for me

ipad seems rather large to do this type of install on the sedan, BUT the Samsung TAB would be right at home!
The only difficulty would be charging. The samsung doesnt use an easy to integrate power plug like the iphone has.

That is definitely NOT a driver's car...
An overkill for my taste.

I would seriously look into Samsung Tab for integration. The size seems right for our oversized faceplate.
But I still haven't given up the Hualingan/Dynavin option, pending their update for DSP issue.

An Android tablet for a car install is a great call. I can't believe it hasn't crossed my mind already. Thats my 2011 project sorted.

a 7-inch tablet would be perfect. I use my phone, which is very good, but sometimes small when it comes to pushing buttons.

Just don't jump into the bandwagon so quickly. Do your proper research and get something that has at least Android 2.2

Interesting. Hadn't seen that one. Though, there are tons of tablets out there. Here is a list of some Android tablets:

The Tab is doable, albeit a bit more expensive than I'd like. There are a ton listed on Amazon, for instance:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...aps&field-keywords=android+2.2+tablet&x=0&y=0

is all the 2.2 tablets.

I made an empty spreadsheet to fill in later with things that might be CarPC worthy, in case anyone wants to edit it. I'll be able to fill some of this in later today.
